Joyce Chu (Chinese: 朱主爱; pinyin: Zhū Zhǔái), born on March 7, 1997, is a talented singer-songwriter and actress from Malaysia. Many people know her by her nickname, "four-leaf clover" (simplified Chinese: 四叶草; traditional Chinese: 四葉草; pinyin: Sì Yè Cǎo). She became famous for her super popular songs like "Malaysia Chabor" and "I Miss You". These songs had really catchy tunes that quickly became hits online! In 2020, Joyce joined a Chinese TV show called Produce Camp 2020 (Chuang 2020), where groups compete to form a girl band. She did great and finished in 9th place. Today, she sings on her own as a solo artist.

Joyce's Early Life

Joyce Chu grew up in Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. Her family is Malaysian Chinese, with roots from Hainan and Hokkien. She has an older sister named Joana and an older brother named Joey. You might have seen them in some of her early videos on YouTube!

Joyce went to Si Ling Secondary School in Singapore. After finishing her GCE 'O' Level exams (which are like big tests at the end of high school), she decided to focus on her music career instead of going to college right away. She's also very musical and can play the piano, guitar, and ukulele.

Joyce's Music Journey

Starting Her Career

In 2014, a famous Malaysian artist named Namewee discovered Joyce. She then joined his music company, RED People. Her very first song was "Malaysia Chabor". This song instantly became a huge hit in Malaysia and made her famous overnight!

Namewee wrote the song, and in it, Joyce tells everyone that she is a "Malaysian Chabor" (which means Malaysian girl in the Hokkien language). This was important because some people thought she was Korean. The song was so popular that many people made their own versions and funny parodies of it. The music video for "Malaysia Chabor" has been watched over 30 million times on YouTube!

Big Hits and New Songs

In October 2014, Joyce released another song called "Your Little Round Hand". She made this song to celebrate the 100th birthday of the famous cartoon character, Doraemon.

A year later, in November 2015, Joyce released her first collection of songs, called an EP. It was named Joyce Chu and had three songs. This was when she started performing in Taiwan. The main song from her EP, "I Miss You", became a massive hit! Its catchy words and melody made it go viral very quickly. Even other famous people and singers, like Happy Polla and TFBoys, covered her song, which made it even more popular. The music video for "I Miss You" has nearly 60 million views on YouTube! Later, she even released "I Miss You 2.0" with Namewee and a Vietnamese version.

Acting and TV Shows

In May 2016, Joyce tried acting! She starred in a comedy movie from Singapore called Young & Fabulous. She played a main role alongside other actors like Aloysius Pang and Jeffrey Xu. The movie was all about cosplay, which is when people dress up as characters.

In June 2016, Joyce joined a Chinese music TV show called Heroes of Remix. On this show, she got to learn from famous mentors, including the well-known singer Wang Leehom.

In December 2016, she released her second EP, which was called Together / Merry Cold Christmas. It had three new songs. In 2017, she released "Simple Love" with singer Michiyo Ho and covered a song by Jacky Cheung. Later that year, in December 2017, Joyce released her first full album, Where It All Started. It had ten songs!

More Acting and Competitions

In 2018, Joyce acted in a Taiwanese web drama called Music in Love. The next year, 2019, she had a small role in a romantic comedy movie from Thailand called Friend Zone. She also sang one of the main songs for that movie. She even recorded the opening song for a Chinese TV show called Le Coup de Foudre.

In April 2020, Joyce appeared in the Taiwanese drama series I, Myself. She was one of the main actors in this show, which was about healing and self-discovery. She even acted in Taiwanese Hokkien for this role.

In May 2020, Joyce took part in the Chinese girl group competition show Produce Camp 2020 (Chuang 2020). She was one of only two contestants from Southeast Asia! She made it all the way to the final round and finished in 9th place, which was a great achievement.
