Joyce Olivia Redman (born December 7, 1915 – died May 9, 2012) was a talented actress from England and Ireland. She was nominated for an Oscar twice. These nominations were for her roles in the movies Tom Jones (1963) and Othello (1965).

Early Life and Education
Joyce Redman was born in Northumberland, England. She grew up in County Mayo, Ireland, as part of an Anglo-Irish family. Joyce and her three sisters were taught at home by a private teacher. Later, she moved to London to study acting. She trained at the famous Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, finishing her studies in 1936.
Acting Career Highlights
Joyce Redman mostly performed in plays and television films. She became very well-known on stage in the 1940s. Some of her successful plays included Shadow and Substance and Claudia. She even performed at the Comédie-Française in France and The Old Vic theatre in London.
Broadway Success
In 1949, Joyce had a big hit in New York City. She played Anne Boleyn in a play called Anne of the Thousand Days. She acted alongside Rex Harrison, who played King Henry VIII.
Shakespearean Roles
In 1955, Joyce joined the Stratford-upon-Avon's Shakespeare Memorial Theatre. There, she played important roles in Shakespeare's plays. She was Helena in All's Well That Ends Well and Mistress Ford in The Merry Wives of Windsor.
Television Appearances
Joyce Redman also appeared on television. In 1974, she played Sophie Dupin in the BBC show Notorious Woman. Sophie Dupin was the mother of a famous writer named George Sand.

Joyce Redman acted in a few movies as well. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Tom Jones (1963). Joyce Redman married Charles Wynne Roberts in New York City in 1949. They had three children together. She also had five grandchildren. Her son, Crispin Redman, followed in her footsteps and became an actor.
Joyce Redman passed away on May 9, 2012, in Pembury, England. She was 96 years old and died from pneumonia.
