Juan Asencio is a neighborhood, also called a barrio, located in the town of Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 2,819 people lived there. It is part of the beautiful island of Puerto Rico.
A Look at Juan Asencio's Past
Juan Asencio has an interesting history. After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of a special agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States.
In 1899, the United States government counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census showed that 1,029 people lived in the Juan Asencio neighborhood at that time.
