Early Life and Royal Service
Juan Vigón was born in a town called Colunga, located in Asturias, Spain. He grew up and began his career in the military.
Before the Spanish Civil War, King Alfonso XIII chose Juan Vigón for a special job. From 1925 to 1930, he was in charge of educating the King's sons. This shows that he was a trusted and respected person.
Leaving and Returning to the Army
When the Second Spanish Republic began in 1931, Juan Vigón left the Spanish Army. He was a strong supporter of the monarchy, which means he believed Spain should have a king or queen. Because of his beliefs, he didn't want to serve the new Republic.
He stayed out of the army for a while, working as a reserve officer. He only briefly returned during a conflict in 1934.
Role in the Spanish Civil War
The Spanish Civil War started on July 18, 1936. At that time, Juan Vigón was in Argentina. He quickly returned to Spain to join the fight.
His first important job in the war was as Chief of Staff for Colonel Alfonso Beorlegui Canet. He helped plan military actions during the Campaign of Gipuzkoa. Later, he became a Staff Colonel during the Battle of Bilbao. He was a key planner for the "War in the North" campaign.
After the War in the North, he was recognized for his bravery and skill. He received the Military Medal and was promoted to General. He then became the chief of staff for the commanders during the Aragon Offensive.
Life After the War
After the Spanish Civil War ended, Juan Vigón continued to serve his country. He became the Minister of the Air Force. This meant he was in charge of Spain's air force.
He was also promoted to Lieutenant-General. He became the Chief of the Defence High Command, which is like being the top leader for all of Spain's armed forces.
Until his death in Madrid in 1955, he held other important positions. He was the president of the Nuclear Energy Board. He also led the Aeronautical Technic National Institute. These roles show his involvement in science and technology.
After he passed away, Franco honored him with a special title. He was given the title of "Marquis," which is a type of nobility.
