Juan de Dios Aranzazu (1798–1845) was an important Colombian politician. He served as the President of the Republic of New Granada from 1841 to 1842. Before that, he was the governor of the Antioquia Department.

Early Life and Career
Juan de Dios Aranzazu was born on March 8, 1798. His birthplace was La Ceja, in the Antioquia Department of Colombia. His father, José María de Aranzazu, was a rich merchant from Spain. His mother was María Antonia González.
As a young man, Juan de Dios studied law. He went to the Colegio de San Bartolomé in Bogotá. He also helped with his family's business. This work made him travel a lot. He visited many places in Colombia and nearby countries.
He started his political journey in 1823. One of his first roles was serving as a congressman. In 1828, he was a delegate at the Convention of Ocaña. This was an important meeting about the country's future. Later, he tried to convince José Antonio Páez not to separate Venezuela from Gran Colombia. In 1829, he supported a rebellion against Simón Bolívar.
Governor of Antioquia
Juan de Dios Aranzazu became the governor of the Antioquia Department in 1832. He held this important job until 1836. During his time as governor, several new towns were started. These included Campamento, Cocorná, Ebéjico, Entrerríos, Girardota, and Liborina. He also worked hard to create a new road to the sea. This road was a very early version of the modern roads we use today.
Becoming President
From late 1841 to early 1842, Juan de Dios Aranzazu served as acting President. This happened during the presidency of Pedro Alcántara Herrán. At that time, President Alcántara Herrán was busy leading the army. He was involved in a conflict called the War of the Supremes. The Vice-President, Domingo Caicedo, was too sick to take office. Because of this, Juan de Dios Aranzazu, who was President of the Council of State, stepped in to lead the country.
Later Life and Legacy
Juan de Dios Aranzazu passed away on April 14, 1845. He died because of cancer.
Years after his death, in 1853, a town was named in his honor. This town is called Aranzazu. It is located in the Caldas Department. The town was built on land that Juan de Dios Aranzazu had donated.
