The Story of Juan dela Cruz
The story is all about a young man named Juan dela Cruz. Juan grew up as an orphan. A kind Catholic priest, Father Cito, took care of him. Father Cito taught Juan good values and strong faith. Juan was so devoted to Jesus Christ that he called him "bossing," which is a Filipino word for "boss."
After Father Cito passed away, Juan moved to Quiapo, Manila, with Lola Belen. Juan did not know a big secret about himself. He was actually half-aswang! His father was the Haring Aswang (King of the Aswangs). His mother, Amelia, was a human and a Tagabantay (Guardian). The Tagabantay's job is to protect humans from the aswangs. They also use a special weapon called the Bakal na Krus (Iron Cross).
A prophecy said that the "Anak ng Dilim" (Child of Darkness) would lead the aswangs. This child was supposed to take over the human world. But Juan's mother was a Tagabantay, which made Juan special.
As Juan grew up, he joined a group called the Kapatiran (Brotherhood). This group wanted to stop the aswangs. The Kapatiran trained Juan to become the next Tagabantay. Later in the story, magical beings like the engkantos and diwatas also helped Juan. They played a big part in the ongoing fight between the aswangs and humans.
