Juan Alberto "Juancho" Hernangómez Geuer (born on September 28, 1995) is a professional basketball player from Spain. He plays for Panathinaikos in Greece. This team competes in the Greek Basketball League (GBL) and the EuroLeague. Juancho also plays for the Spanish national team.
He was chosen by the Denver Nuggets in the 2016 NBA draft. He spent seven seasons playing in the NBA. During his time in the NBA, he played for teams like the Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs, Utah Jazz, and Toronto Raptors.
Juancho was a key player when Spain won the EuroBasket 2022 championship in 2022. In the final game against France, he scored 27 points, which was the most in the game.
Besides playing basketball, Juancho Hernangómez also acted in the Netflix basketball movie Hustle in 2022. He starred alongside famous actor Adam Sandler.

Early Basketball Days
Juancho Hernangómez started playing basketball in 2007. He joined the youth teams of CB Las Rozas. Later, he played for a youth team at Real Madrid. After that, he moved to Club Baloncesto Majadahonda for a few years.
Professional Basketball Career
Playing for CB Estudiantes (2012–2016)
In 2012, Juancho signed his first professional contract with CB Estudiantes. He played for their second team until 2014. Then, he moved up to the main team. In the 2015–16 season, he played very well. He averaged 9.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Because of his great performance, he won the ACB Best Young Player Award.
Time with the Denver Nuggets (2016–2020)
On April 26, 2016, Juancho decided to enter the 2016 NBA draft. The Denver Nuggets picked him as the 15th player overall. He signed his first NBA contract with the Nuggets on August 9, 2016.
He sometimes played for the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the NBA Development League to get more playing time. On February 13, 2017, he had his best game of the season. He scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against the Golden State Warriors. He even made six three-pointers in that game. In the 2017–18 season, Juancho faced a challenge when he got sick with mononucleosis. This meant he could only play in 25 games that season.
Moving to the Minnesota Timberwolves (2020–2021)
On February 5, 2020, Juancho was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He signed a new three-year contract with them on November 27, 2020. The 2020–21 season was tough for him. He faced challenges like an injury and getting sick.
Playing for Other NBA Teams (2021–2023)
Juancho moved to several different NBA teams in a short period.
- On August 25, 2021, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies.
- Then, on September 15, he was traded to the Boston Celtics.
- On January 19, 2022, he joined the San Antonio Spurs as part of a three-team trade.
- On February 9, 2022, he was traded again to the Utah Jazz. The Jazz later decided to waive him on June 30.
- On July 27, 2022, Juancho signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Raptors. He was waived by the Raptors on February 28, 2023.
Return to Europe with Panathinaikos (2023–Present)
On July 27, 2023, Juancho Hernangómez signed a two-year contract with EuroLeague team Panathinaikos. This move marked his return to European basketball after seven years in the NBA. He has since renewed his contract with Panathinaikos until 2027.
Playing for Spain's National Team
Junior National Team Experience
In 2013, Juancho played for the Spain national under-18 basketball team in Latvia. For the next two years, he played for the Spain national under-20 basketball team. He also helped the senior Spain national team practice for the EuroBasket 2015.
Senior National Team Achievements
Juancho's first major tournament with the senior Spanish national team was the EuroBasket 2017. Spain finished in third place and won the bronze medal.
In June 2018, he was again part of the Spanish national team. This was for the qualifiers for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
Juancho and the Spanish team won a gold medal at EuroBasket 2022. This was a big surprise! In the final game against France, Juancho scored 27 points. He made seven three-pointers, helping Spain win convincingly. He was one of the top scorers and rebounders on the team. His older brother, Willy, was also on the team and won the tournament's MVP award.
