Juan Alberto "Juancho" Hernangómez Geuer (born September 28, 1995) is a Spanish professional basketball player. He plays for Panathinaikos in Greece. He also plays in the EuroLeague, which is a top European basketball league.
Juancho was chosen by the Denver Nuggets in the 2016 NBA draft. He played for seven seasons in the NBA before going back to play in Europe. He is a very good player and helped his team, Panathinaikos, win the EuroLeague championship in 2024.
He also plays for the Spanish national team. He helped Spain win the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup. He also played a big part in winning the EuroBasket 2022, where he scored 27 points in the final game. Besides basketball, Juancho also acted in the Netflix movie Hustle in 2022, with Adam Sandler.

Early Basketball Journey
Juancho Hernangómez started playing basketball when he was 12 years old in 2007. He joined the youth teams of CB Las Rozas. Later, he played for a youth team of Real Madrid. After that, he moved to Club Baloncesto Majadahonda for a few years.
Professional Basketball Career
Playing for Estudiantes (2012–2016)
In 2012, Juancho signed his first professional contract with CB Estudiantes in Spain. He played for their second team until 2014. Then, he moved up to the main team. In the 2015–16 season, he averaged about 9.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Because of his great play, he won the ACB Best Young Player Award.
Time in the NBA (2016–2023)

Juancho was picked by the Denver Nuggets as the 15th player in the 2016 NBA draft. He signed his first NBA contract in August 2016. He even played one game for the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the NBA Development League. In February 2017, he had a great game against the Golden State Warriors, scoring 27 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Later, he played for several other NBA teams. He joined the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2020. He also played for the Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs, and Utah Jazz in 2021 and 2022. In 2022, he signed with the Toronto Raptors. He played for them until February 2023.
Return to Europe with Panathinaikos (2023–Present)
In July 2023, Juancho decided to return to European basketball. He signed a two-year contract with Panathinaikos, a very strong team in the EuroLeague. He has been a key player for them. In January 2025, he signed a new contract to stay with Panathinaikos until 2027.
Playing for Spain
Junior National Team
Juancho played for Spain's national youth teams. In 2013, he played in the FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship. For the next two years, he played for the under-20 team in the FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship. He even helped the senior Spanish team practice for the EuroBasket 2015.
Senior National Team
Juancho made his first big appearance for the senior Spanish national team at the EuroBasket 2017. Spain finished in third place and won the bronze medal.
In 2019, Juancho and the Spanish team won a gold medal at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup. It was a big surprise and a huge win!
He also played a major role in Spain winning the gold medal at EuroBasket 2022. In the final game against France, Juancho scored 27 points. His brother, Willy, was also on the team and was named the best player of the tournament.
Acting Career
Juancho Hernangómez made his first movie appearance in the Netflix film Hustle. The movie was produced by LeBron James and Adam Sandler, who also starred in it. The film was released in June 2022.
Juancho's Family Life
Juancho comes from a family of basketball players!
- His older brother, Willy, also plays professional basketball. Willy plays for FC Barcelona and used to play in the NBA.
- His mother, Margarita Geuer Draeger, was also an international basketball player. She won a European championship with Spain in 1993.
- His father also played basketball for Real Madrid and Estudiantes.
- His younger sister currently plays for Estudiantes' youth team.
