Juggling world records facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Juggling world records are all about showing off the very best juggling skills! These records track how many objects a person can juggle at once, or how long they can keep juggling without dropping anything. It's like the Olympics for jugglers, where people push their limits to see what's possible.

How Juggling Records Are Set

To make sure a juggling record is real and fair, there are some important rules:

  • Proof is Key: Every record needs to be proven with a video. Sometimes, these videos are available for everyone to see. Other times, big organizations like Guinness World Records check them out.
  • What is a 'Flash'?: In juggling, a 'flash' means you throw and catch every single object at least once. For example, if you're juggling 12 balls, you need to throw and catch all 12 of them at least one time each for it to count as a flash.
  • What is a 'Qualify'?: If you throw and catch each object more than once, that's called a 'qualify'. This is usually for endurance records, where jugglers try to keep the objects in the air for a long time.

Here's how different juggling objects are defined for records:

  • Balls: These are round objects, like beanbags.
  • Clubs: These are long, cylinder-shaped objects, like juggling sticks or batons.
  • Rings: These are flat, round objects, like plates or hoops.
  • Bouncing Balls: These balls must bounce off a flat, hard surface. Each ball should only bounce once between being thrown and caught.

Solo Juggling Records

In solo juggling, a single person juggles by themselves. Here are some rules for these records:

  • You must throw each object one at a time from each hand.
  • You can't throw more than one object at a time from the same hand (this is called 'multiplexing').
  • Catches only count if you haven't dropped any objects. A 'drop' means an object hits the ground or something else because you couldn't catch it.

Passing Records

When jugglers are passing objects, it means they are throwing them back and forth between each other. For these records, only the throws that go from one juggler to the other are counted. Throws that a juggler makes to themselves don't count. This is because if self-throws counted, two jugglers could just make one pass and then juggle by themselves for a long time, which wouldn't really be a "passing" record.
