Julien Alfred (born 10 June 2001) is a super-fast runner, also known as a sprinter, from Saint Lucia. She made history at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris! She won the gold medal in the 100 metres race, setting a brand new national record for her country. This was the very first Olympic medal ever for Saint Lucia, which is amazing! She also won a silver medal in the 200 metres race at the same Olympics. Before that, Julien also won a gold medal in the 60 metres race at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships.
Julien is also known for being a silver medalist in the 100 metres at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. She holds a special record in North America for the indoor 60 metres race. She was the first woman in the history of the NCAA (a big sports organization for college students) to run the 60 metres in under seven seconds. Julien has won three individual championships in NCAA Division I, showing she was a top college athlete.

Julien Alfred's Early Life and Education
Julien Alfred was born in a community called Ciceron, which is in the south of Castries, Saint Lucia. Her father passed away when she was 12 years old.
She went to school in Saint Lucia at Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School from 2013 to 2015. After that, she moved to Jamaica and attended St. Catherine High School from 2015 to 2018. Later, she went to the University of Texas in the United States. There, she studied Youth & Community Studies while also focusing on her athletics career.
As a young athlete, Julien was already showing great talent. In 2015, she became a champion in the Central American and Caribbean U15 (under 15) competition. Both in 2015 and 2017, she was named Saint Lucia’s Junior Sportswoman of the Year.
In 2017, she won the 100 metres race at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Nassau, Bahamas. In 2018, she earned a silver medal in the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Julien's Amazing Year: 2022 Achievements
In 2022, Julien Alfred had an incredible year in college athletics. She set a new record for the fastest time ever in the 60 metres race at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships. Her time of 7.04 seconds made her one of the fastest women in history.
She also set a new national record for Saint Lucia in the 100 metres race at the Big 12 Conference Championships. This made her the fastest woman ever from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States. She continued her winning streak by becoming the 2022 NCAA Division I 100 metres champion. This was a huge achievement, as she became the first track athlete from Saint Lucia to win a Division I championship.
After her college season, she won the 100 metres event at the first-ever Caribbean Games in Guadeloupe.
Breaking Records: Julien's 2023 Season
Julien Alfred continued to make history in 2023. In February, she became the first woman in NCAA history to run the 60 metres in under 7 seconds, with a time of 6.97 seconds. This amazing speed placed her among the top sprinters in the world.
In March, at the NCAA Indoor Championships in New Mexico, she improved her times even more. She ran the 60 metres in 6.94 seconds and the 200 metres in 22.01 seconds, winning both titles. Her 60 metres time was very close to the world record set in 1993. Her 200 metres time was also one of the fastest ever.
Later in 2023, she competed in the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest. She reached the finals in both the 100 metres and 200 metres races, finishing fifth and fourth respectively.
Olympic Glory: Julien's 2024 Highlights
Julien Alfred started 2024 by winning a gold medal in the women's 60 metres at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. Her time of 6.98 seconds was the fastest in the world that year. This was Saint Lucia's first-ever medal at the World Athletics Indoor Championships.
She continued to perform well, setting a new national record for the 200 metres race in London.
The biggest moment of her year came at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. She won the gold medal in the women's 100 metres race with a new national record time of 10.72 seconds. This historic win brought Saint Lucia its first-ever Olympic medal! She also earned a silver medal in the 200 metres race.
Julien's Olympic victory caused huge celebrations in Saint Lucia. The government even declared September 27, 2024, as "Julien Alfred Day" to honor her amazing achievement.
