Julien Alfred (born June 10, 2001) is a super-fast Saint Lucian sprinter. She made history by winning the gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in the 100 metres race. She set a new national record for Saint Lucia with a time of 10.72 seconds. This was the very first Olympic medal ever for Saint Lucia! She also won a silver medal in the 200 metres at the same Olympics.
Julien also won a gold medal in the 60 metres at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships. She earned a silver medal in the 100 metres at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. She holds a record for the 60 metres indoors in North America. She was also the first woman in NCAA history to run the 60 metres in under seven seconds. Julien Alfred has won three individual championships in the NCAA.

About Julien Alfred
Julien Alfred was born in Ciceron, a community in Castries, Saint Lucia. Her father passed away when she was 12 years old. She went to Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School in Saint Lucia from 2013 to 2015. Then, she attended St. Catherine High School in Jamaica from 2015 to 2018.
After high school, she moved to the United States. She studied Youth & Community Studies at the University of Texas. This allowed her to combine her schoolwork with her amazing athletic training.
Early Career and Youth Games
Julien was a champion in the Central American and Caribbean U15 competition in 2015. She was named Saint Lucia’s Junior Sportswoman of the Year in both 2015 and 2017. As a young athlete, she won the 100 metres at the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2017. These games were held in Nassau, Bahamas.
She also won a silver medal at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games. This event took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She finished just behind Rosemary Chukwuma from Nigeria.
Breaking Records in 2022
In 2022, Julien Alfred showed incredible speed. She ran the 60 metres in 7.04 seconds at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships. This was the best performance ever in the NCAA at that time. At 21 years old, she became one of the top 30 fastest women in history.
She set a new Saint Lucia national record in the 100 metres. She ran 10.81 seconds at the Big 12 Conference Championships in Texas. This made her the fastest woman ever from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States. She also won the 2022 NCAA Division I 100 metres title. She was the first track athlete from Saint Lucia to win a Division I championship.
Amazing Achievements in 2023
On February 25, 2023, Julien Alfred broke her own college record for the fourth time. She became the first woman in NCAA history to run the 60 metres in under 7 seconds, with a time of 6.97 seconds. This amazing run happened at the Big 12 Indoor Championships in Texas. Her time placed her eighth on the world's all-time list for the 60 metres.
She also ran the 200 metres in 22.26 seconds, which was the second-fastest college time ever. On March 11, at the NCAA Indoors in New Mexico, she improved even more. She ran the 60 metres in 6.94 seconds and the 200 metres in 22.01 seconds. She won both titles! Her 60 metres time was just two hundredths of a second shy of the world record. She also equaled the North American record. In the 200 metres, only one woman had ever run faster.
After her incredible year, Julien was named the Big 12 Conference Athlete of the Year. She also competed at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Hungary. She reached the finals in both the 100 metres and 200 metres, finishing fifth and fourth, respectively.
Olympic and World Indoor Titles in 2024
Julien Alfred started 2024 with a bang! She won the gold medal in the women's 60 metres at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Scotland. She ran a world-leading time of 6.98 seconds. This was Saint Lucia's first-ever medal at the World Athletics Indoor Championships.
She continued to shine, winning the 100 metres at the Racers Grand Prix in Jamaica with a time of 10.78 seconds. On July 12, she won the 100 metres at the Herculis Diamond League event in Monaco. Julien set a new national record for the 200 metres, running 21.86 seconds at the Diamond League meeting in London on July 20.
Then came the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Julien won the gold medal in the women's 100 metres with a national record time of 10.72 seconds. This historic win brought Saint Lucia its first Olympic medal ever! She also earned a silver medal in the 200 metres race. After her Olympic victories, Julien won the 100 metres at the Diamond League Final in Brussels on September 13.
Her Olympic win caused huge celebrations in Saint Lucia. The government even declared September 27, 2024, as "Julien Alfred Day" to honor her.
Continuing Success in 2025
Julien Alfred continued her winning streak in 2025. On June 15, 2025, she won the 100 metres at the BAUHAUS-galan event in Stockholm. She set a meeting record with a time of 10.75 seconds. This event was part of the 2025 Diamond League. She also ran 10.77 seconds to finish second in the 100 metres at the 2025 Prefontaine Classic on July 5. On July 20, she won the 200 metres at the 2025 London Athletics Meet with a time of 21.71 seconds, which is one of the fastest times ever recorded.
