Julius W. Harris (born August 17, 1923 – died October 17, 2004) was an American actor. He appeared in over 70 movies and many TV shows. His acting career lasted for more than 40 years! He was famous for his roles in films from the 1970s. These included the James Bond film Live and Let Die. He also starred in action films like Super Fly, Black Caesar, and Hell Up in Harlem.
Julius Harris's Early Life
Julius Harris was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His mother was a dancer and his father was a musician. Before becoming an actor, Julius worked in different jobs. He was a nurse and also a bouncer in New York City jazz clubs.
He also served as a medic in the United States Army during World War II. After the war, he spent time with actors who were trying to make it big. One day, he decided to try acting himself. He auditioned for his first role and got it! It was in the 1964 film Nothing But a Man. This movie was highly praised and was about Black life in the Southern United States.
Famous Roles and Characters
Julius Harris played many memorable characters. One of his most well-known roles was Tee Hee in the James Bond movie Live and Let Die. Tee Hee was a villain with a special steel arm.
He also played Scatter in Super Fly. Other important roles included Bubbletop Woodson in Let's Do It Again and Inspector Daniels in The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. He even played Ugandan President Idi Amin in the TV movie Victory at Entebbe.
Julius Harris appeared in many other films. These include Trouble Man, King Kong, and Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man. He also made guest appearances on popular TV shows. Some of these were Sanford and Son, Good Times, and Love Boat. He was also part of the Negro Ensemble Company in New York City. He performed on Broadway in a play called No Place to Be Somebody, which won a special award called the Pulitzer Prize.
His Passing
Julius Harris passed away on October 17, 2004. He was 81 years old. He died from heart failure while in the hospital. He was cremated and buried in Philadelphia, where he was born. He was survived by his two children, a daughter named Kimberly and a son named Gideon.
