The Junglies was a fun British cartoon series that aired from 1991 to 1992. It was shown on ITV and TV-am in the UK. This show was created by Terry Ward and featured a group of animal friends.
What are the Junglies?
The Junglies cartoon takes place on a make-believe place called Junglie Island. This island is somewhere near Africa. Each episode follows the exciting adventures of several animal characters. These animals are called the Junglies, and they act like young children.
A total of 13 episodes were made for the series. They aired between 1991 and 1992 only in the United Kingdom. Some of these episodes were released directly on video. One episode, "Flying South," was even included on a VHS and DVD called A Day Full of Animals and Songs.
Meet the Junglies Characters!
Just like Nellie the Elephant, another show by Terry Ward, only two actors voiced all the characters. For Junglies, Gary Wilmot and Jessica Martin provided all the voices.
Here are some of the main characters:
- Tyrone - An orange, energetic, and playful tiger. He is the brave leader of the Junglies.
- Marvin - A red, mischievous, and cheeky monkey.
- Geraldine - An orange giraffe with buck teeth. She really loves butterflies.
- Lester - An orange and brown lion who is very outspoken.
- Penny - A red parrot who speaks with a Scouse accent.
- Sebastian - A green snake who speaks with a lisp.
- Henrietta - A blue hippopotamus. Her mother is a school teacher.
- Ethel - An elephant.
- Zoe - A zebra who speaks with a French accent.
- Albert - A green alligator who lives in a houseboat.
- Graham - A gorilla who only appears in the very last episode.
- The Sun - An unnamed, friendly sun with hands, arms, and a face. He wakes up and goes to sleep at the start or middle of some episodes.
- The Moon - A real, silent moon. It appears every night on Junglie Island, even on Christmas Day.
- Firefly - A small character who appears at night on Junglie Island. You can see her in the episodes "Say Cheese Everyone" and "A Journey To The Moon".
