Playing for Clubs
Starting at Arsenal
Justin Hoyte was born in Leytonstone, London. He joined the famous Arsenal club when he was just nine years old. He grew up playing in their youth academy.
He was a substitute player when Arsenal won the 2001 FA Youth Cup. In July 2002, he officially became a professional player for Arsenal.

Hoyte played his first senior game for Arsenal in May 2003. It was a big 6–1 win against Southampton. He made another short appearance in the 2003–04 FA Premier League season. Arsenal won the league that year, but he didn't play enough games to get a medal.
In 2004, Hoyte played in the 2004 FA Community Shield when Arsenal beat Manchester United. He got his first start in a game on August 28, 2004, against Norwich City. He ended that season with 12 games played for Arsenal.
In 2005, Arsenal loaned Hoyte to Sunderland for the 2005–06 Premier League season. He played 31 games for Sunderland and scored one goal. This goal was in a big local game against Newcastle United in April 2006.
For the 2006–07 season, Hoyte played as a temporary left back. This was because other players were injured. He scored his first goal for Arsenal on January 2, 2007. It was in a 4–0 win against Charlton Athletic. This made him the first English player to score at Arsenal's new Emirates Stadium. He played 36 games that season. He also started in the League Cup final, where Arsenal lost to Chelsea.
In 2007, Aston Villa wanted to sign Hoyte. But Arsenal's manager, Arsène Wenger, said Hoyte would stay. Hoyte wanted to stay and fight for his place on the team. He played 68 games for Arsenal in total. In August 2008, he moved to Middlesbrough.
Time at Middlesbrough
On December 28, 2009, Hoyte scored his first goal for Middlesbrough. It was a cross-shot against Barnsley. Under manager Tony Mowbray, Hoyte became a regular player for the team.
In February 2012, during an FA Cup game, a fan ran onto the field. The fan bumped into Hoyte, causing him to limp. Middlesbrough then lost the game.
Hoyte left Middlesbrough in July 2012. But he decided to sign a new two-year contract with them later that year. On November 9, 2012, he scored his second goal for Middlesbrough. It was a great shot in a 3–1 win against Sheffield Wednesday. This win put Middlesbrough at the top of the league table. He played 162 games for the club and scored two goals.
Later Career Teams
In November 2013, Hoyte joined Millwall on loan. This move became permanent in January 2014. He left Millwall at the end of the 2014–15 season. He had only played three games for them during his permanent time there.
Hoyte then joined Dagenham & Redbridge in September 2016. He stayed with the club until the end of the season. He was one of many players who left after Dagenham was moved down to a lower league.
In March 2017, Hoyte signed with FC Cincinnati in the United States. He played for them until the end of the 2019 season.
Playing for His Country
Justin Hoyte could choose to play for either England or Trinidad and Tobago. This was because his father was born in Trinidad and Tobago. In February 2006, he chose to play for England. Trinidad and Tobago wanted him for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. But Hoyte said he wanted to focus on playing for England.
Hoyte played 18 times for the England under-21 team. He played in all four games at the 2007 UEFA Under-21 Championship. He was part of a long penalty shootout against the Netherlands. He missed his first penalty but scored his second. England lost the shootout. He scored one goal for the England under-21 team in November 2006.
In February 2013, Hoyte decided to play for the Trinidad and Tobago national team. He got his first call-up to their team in March.
