Justin Michael Reed (born January 16, 1982 – died October 20, 2017) was an American professional basketball player. He mostly played as a small forward or power forward.

Justin Reed's College Basketball Journey

Justin Reed was a star player for the University of Mississippi's team, the Ole Miss Rebels. He was part of a special group called the "Provine Posse." This group included three teammates from his old high school, Provine High School, who all played for the Rebels. The other two players were Aaron Harper and David Sanders.

Reed played under Coach Rod Barnes, who was named the Naismith Coach of the Year in 2001. Justin became a very strong and well-rounded player in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). He was chosen as an All-SEC player in all four years he played at the University of Mississippi.

As a freshman in 2001, Reed helped his team win two games in the NCAA tournament. This led the Ole Miss program to reach the "Sweet Sixteen" for the first time ever. The Sweet Sixteen is when only 16 teams are left in the tournament.

Justin Reed's NBA Career

After his successful college career, Justin Reed was chosen by the Boston Celtics in the 2004 NBA draft. He was the 40th player picked overall in the second round.

He played for the Celtics for about a season and a half. Then, on January 26, 2006, he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He played 40 games with the Timberwolves and did well. After that season, he became a "restricted free agent." This meant the Timberwolves could offer him a new contract, and they did. They gave him a three-year contract.

On June 14, 2007, Reed was traded again, this time to the Houston Rockets. This trade also involved his teammate Mike James. However, the Rockets later decided not to keep him, and he did not play any games for them.

Later Life and Passing

Justin Reed later played for other teams like the Austin Toros and the Bakersfield Jam. Sadly, Justin Reed passed away on October 20, 2017. He had been battling a type of cancer called angiosarcoma.
