KPRK (1340 AM) is a radio station that broadcasts from Livingston, Montana. It is owned by Townsquare Media. KPRK plays talk radio shows. It shares its programs with a sister station called KMMS.

The History of KPRK Radio

KPRK first started broadcasting in 1946. Over the years, KPRK has played many different types of music. It used to play country music, rock and roll on Saturday nights, and Big Band music on Sunday mornings.

Past Programs and Features

KPRK had a special show called "Swap Shop." During this show, local people could call in. They could advertise things they wanted to sell or trade for free! The station would start broadcasting around 5:30 AM and finish at midnight.

KPRK also covered local events. They broadcasted high school sports games. They also shared news from rodeos and fairs in the area. Many local people became famous voices on the station.

News and Awards

KPRK was known for its local news. They reported the news three times a day. This included reports from the local court. In 1999, the KPRK team won several awards. These awards were for their news reports to the Montana AP (Associated Press).

Music Formats and Slogans

When KPRK played country music, its slogan was "Cool Country 1340 KPRK." They also had a special segment called "Cool Country Triple Play." In this segment, they played two new songs. Then, they would play a "Hit from Yesterday." This was a classic country song.

KPRK Today

Since 2019, KPRK has been broadcasting the same programs as its sister station, KMMS. KMMS plays news and talk shows. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) gave KPRK its call letters.

Who Owns KPRK Radio?

KPRK is currently owned by Townsquare Media. This company owns many radio stations across the United States.

Changes in Ownership

In February 2008, a company called GAPWEST Broadcasting bought 57 radio stations. These stations were in 13 different areas. They bought them from another company called Clear Channel Communications. This big deal was worth about $74 million.

The deal included six stations in Bozeman, Montana. It also included stations in Missoula, Montana, and Billings, Montana. Other stations were in places like Shelby, Montana, and cities in Wyoming and Idaho. Later, in August 2010, GapWest joined with Townsquare Media.

Past Owners

Before Townsquare Media, KPRK had other owners. These included Jan Lambert, Marathon Media, and Clear Channel.

The old KPRK radio building is in Livingston, Montana. It is a very special building. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is an important historical site.

Building Design and Features

A plaque near the front door tells us about the building. It says that architect William Fox designed it in 1946. He was from Missoula, Montana. The building has a cool "stylized radio tower" above the front door. This tower looks like a radio antenna.

Current Use of the Building

Even though the building is historic, KPRK no longer broadcasts from there. All their radio shows now come from studios in Bozeman, Montana.
