Kahmari Montgomery (born August 16, 1997) is an American track and field athlete. He is a sprinter who runs for Nike. Kahmari is best known for running the 400 m race.
He won the men's 400 m title at the USA Championships in 2018. He also won at the NCAA Division I Championships in 2019. He has won gold medals for the United States in the 4 × 400 m relay. These wins were at the World U20 Championships in 2016 and the first Athletics World Cup in 2018.
In 2018, he ran a very fast 43.38 seconds in a 4 × 400 m relay race. This helped the Houston Cougars team win their first race at the Penn Relays. In 2019, he ran an indoor relay split of 44.45 seconds. This was one of the fastest indoor splits ever. It helped the Houston Cougars set a world record for the indoor 4 × 400 m relay.

High School Years
Kahmari Montgomery went to Plainfield Central High School. In 2015, he was one of the fastest high school seniors in the United States. He ranked fifth in the 400 m race. He was also a top runner in the 60 m, 100 m, and 200 m races.
Kahmari won five state championships in Illinois. He won the 100 m title in 2015. He won the 200 m title in both 2014 and 2015. He also won the 400 m title in 2014 and 2015.
College Career
Missouri Tigers
In 2016, Kahmari started college at the University of Missouri. He ran for the Missouri Tigers team. He won two championships in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). He won the indoor 400 m and the outdoor 400 m.
He reached the semi-finals at the NCAA Division I Championships. He also won a silver medal at the USA Junior Championships. Later that year, he won a gold medal for the United States. This was at the World U20 Championships in the 4 × 400 m relay.
In 2017, his second year, he had a tougher season. He did not do as well in the SEC or NCAA championships. However, he competed for the United States at the Universiade. There, he met Leroy Burrell, who was the head coach for the Houston Cougars. Kahmari won a silver medal in the 4 × 400 m relay at this event. After the season, he decided to move to the University of Houston. He felt it would be a better place for him to succeed as an athlete.
Houston Cougars
In 2018, Kahmari joined the Houston Cougars team. He became a three-time champion in the American Athletic Conference (AAC). He won the indoor 400 m, indoor 4 × 400 m, and outdoor 400 m.
At the Penn Relays, he ran an amazing 43.38 seconds in the 4 × 400 m relay. This was one of the fastest relay splits ever. It helped the Houston Cougars win their first Penn Relays 4 × 400 m relay title. They also set a new school record. He finished 4th and 7th at the NCAA Division I Championships.
In his last individual race of 2018, he won the 400 m at the USA Championships. He set a new personal best time of 44.58 seconds. He then won gold medals for the United States in the 4 × 400 m relay. These wins were at the first Athletics World Cup and the NACAC Championships.
At the start of 2019, Kahmari was on a special list for top athletes called The Bowerman. In February, his Houston team set a world-leading time of 3:01.51 in the 4 × 400 m relay. This was the fourth fastest indoor time ever. It was later recognized as an indoor world record. Kahmari's own split time was 44.45 seconds, which was the third fastest indoor 400 m split of all time.
Two weeks later, he won the 400 m again at the AAC Indoor Championships. He ran a world-leading time of 45.04 seconds. He finished his indoor season by taking second place in the 400 m at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships. He also helped his team win the 4 × 400 m relay title. At the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships, he won the 400 m race with a personal best of 44.23 seconds.
