Kapohanaupuni (also known as Kapo-hana-au-puni or Kapohanaʻaupuni) was an important lady from ancient Hawaii. She was the sister of Lady Kapohauola from the island of Maui.

Who Was Kapohanaupuni?

Kapohanaupuni was born a long time ago in ancient Hawaii. She had a sister named Kapohauola. We don't know for sure who their parents were.

Some old stories say that Kapohanaupuni was an important person from Hilo. Hilo is a place on the island of Hawaii. This might mean her parents were from Hilo.

However, another story says she was the daughter of a powerful leader. This leader was High Chief Kahokuohua from Molokai. This story also says she married Kaulahea I, who was a chief of Maui.

Her Family and Legacy

Kapohanaupuni had two sons. Their names were Kakae and Kakaʻalaneo. Both of her sons grew up to become important chiefs of Maui.

Her sister, Kapohauola, married Kapohanaupuni's son, Kakae. They had a son named Kahekili I the Great. This means Kahekili I was both Kapohanaupuni's grandson and her nephew.

Because of her sons, Kapohanaupuni became an ancestor. Many later rulers of Maui were related to her.
