Karamo Karega Brown (born November 2, 1980) is an American TV host, author, actor, and activist. He is well-known for his role as the culture expert on the Netflix show Queer Eye. In September 2022, he also started hosting his own talk show called Karamo.

About Karamo Brown

Karamo Brown was born in Houston, Texas, on November 2, 1980. He has three older sisters and comes from Jamaican and Cuban family backgrounds. He grew up in Coral Springs, Florida, and finished high school in Parkland in 1999. Karamo later went to Florida A&M University, which is a historically black university. Before becoming a TV star, he worked in social services, helping people.

When Karamo was 27, he found out he was the father of a ten-year-old boy named Jason. He gained custody of Jason that same year. In 2010, he adopted Jason's half-brother, Chris. In 2011, Karamo and his two sons moved to Los Angeles, where they live today.

Karamo's TV Journey

Karamo Brown first became known on television in 2004. He appeared on the MTV reality show The Real World: Philadelphia. After that, he was on another MTV show called Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Inferno II.

In 2016, Karamo returned to reality TV on The Next 15. He also worked as a host and producer for different shows like Dr. Drew On Call, The Young Turks, and Access Hollywood Live. In 2014, he became a host for the Own Show.

One of Karamo's most famous roles is on the Netflix show Queer Eye. He is the "culture expert" on the show, helping people improve their lives and feel more confident. The show first came out in February 2018.

In 2019, Karamo competed on Dancing with the Stars. He was paired with professional dancer Jenna Johnson. During the show, Karamo talked about the importance of connecting with people, even those with different views. He believes in having conversations to help others understand different perspectives.

In 2022, Karamo became the host of his own talk show, Karamo, which started in September. He had previously been a guest host on the Maury show.

Books and Other Projects

Karamo Brown is also an author. In March 2019, he published his memoir, Karamo: My Story of Embracing Purpose, Healing, and Hope. A memoir is a book about a person's own life experiences.

In November 2019, Karamo wrote a children's book with his son Jason. It's called I Am Perfectly Designed. The title comes from a phrase Karamo often told Jason when he was growing up, reminding him that he is special and unique just the way he is. The book was illustrated by Anoosha Syed.

In 2020, Karamo helped create MANTL, a special care brand for bald or balding men. That same year, he was named to the Ebony Power 100 List, which recognizes influential African Americans. In 2022, he was a judge on the Netflix show Is It Cake?.

Karamo's Activism

Karamo Brown is a strong advocate for important causes. In 2014, he worked with a company called Janssen on a campaign called Positively Fearless. This campaign aimed to support and empower the gay and bisexual community.

In 2015, Karamo co-founded an organization called 6in10.org. This group works to fight against the negative ideas about HIV and provides support for mental health and education about HIV, especially for the black LGBT community. Karamo also volunteers as a youth counselor at the Los Angeles LGBT Center. He has also worked with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Black Justice Coalition as a health and wellness ambassador. His work often focuses on the Black LGBTQ community because he feels they are sometimes overlooked.

The Obama Administration invited Karamo to work with the White House. He helped create policies and laws to support young LGBTQ people and their allies after school. He also worked with the Obama Foundation and the My Brother's Keeper Alliance.

In 2018, Karamo joined members of the Creative Coalition to ask lawmakers for more money for the National Endowment for the Arts, which supports arts and culture. He also travels around the country to speak and host discussions with different groups about issues facing the LGBTQ community.
