Karen Disher's Creative Journey
Karen Disher learned about traditional 2D animation at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. After finishing her studies, she joined MTV Animation.
Early Work at MTV Animation
Her first job at MTV was as a layout artist for Beavis and Butt-head. This means she helped plan how the scenes would look.
Later, she became the main character designer and supervising director for the hit show Daria. She even directed two TV movies for the series: Is It Fall Yet? in 2000 and Is It College Yet? in 2002.
Adventures at Blue Sky Studios
After MTV, Karen Disher joined Blue Sky Studios. Here, she became a story artist. A story artist helps create the visual story for a film, drawing out scenes like a comic book.
She worked on many animated movies, including:
- Robots
- Ice Age: The Meltdown
- Horton Hears a Who!
- Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
- The Peanuts Movie
- Ferdinand
Karen Disher was also the head of story for the movie Rio. This means she led the team that developed the film's story through drawings.
She directed a short film called Surviving Sid and a TV special, Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas. Both of these were part of the Ice Age world.
Besides drawing and directing, Karen Disher sometimes lent her voice to small characters in the movies she worked on. A famous one was Scratte in Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.

In 2021, Karen Disher joined Spire Animation Studios. She is now a Creative Director there. She is also a founding member of the studio's "Creative Cadre," which is a group of creative leaders.
