Karen Fukuhara (born February 10, 1992) is an American actress. She is well-known for playing the superhero character Tatsu Yamashiro, also known as Katana, in the 2016 movie Suicide Squad. She also plays Kimiko Miyashiro, or The Female, in the Amazon series The Boys, which started in 2019.
Karen Fukuhara has also lent her voice to several popular animated characters. She voiced Kipo in Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, Glimmer in the Netflix series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, and Haru in Pokémon Concierge.

Her Early Life and School
Karen Fukuhara was born in Los Angeles on February 10, 1992. Her parents are from Japan. Japanese was her first language, and she went to a Japanese language school every Saturday for 11 years. She has one younger brother.
When she was in middle school, Karen started learning karate. She earned a brown-striped belt before she went to college. She has always been a big fan of Pokémon and loved playing her Game Boy when she was younger.
College Years
Karen Fukuhara went to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). While studying there, she also worked as a reporter for a sports show in Japan on NHK. She was part of the Cultural Affairs Commission at UCLA. She also sang in an a cappella group called Medleys. Another famous actress, Kelly Marie Tran, was also in this group. Karen finished college in 2014 with a degree in Sociology and a minor in Theater.
Karen Fukuhara's Acting Career
Karen Fukuhara started her journey in entertainment when she was in middle school. She became a host for Movie Surfers, a short news show on the Disney Channel that talked about movies.
Before she became a well-known actress, Karen had many different part-time jobs. She worked as a translator, helped edit subtitles for videos, and was a waitress at a sushi restaurant.
Big Roles in Movies and TV Shows
In 2016, Karen Fukuhara made her big movie debut. She played Katana in the DC Comics superhero movie Suicide Squad. This movie came out in August 2016. Even though she already knew martial arts, Karen trained for about two months to learn how to use a sword for the role.
In 2019, she appeared in a movie called Stray. She acted alongside Christine Woods, Miyavi, and Ross Partridge.
Karen also used her voice for characters in animated TV shows. She voiced Sewer Queen and Alexis in the Cartoon Network series Craig of the Creek. In 2018, she started voicing Glimmer in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. This show was a new version of an old animated series from 1985.
Since 2019, Karen has been a main star in the Amazon Prime series The Boys. In this show, she plays Kimiko Miyashiro, also known as The Female. The series is based on a comic book.
In 2020, she voiced the main character, Kipo Oak, in the animated series Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts. This show was based on a short webcomic.
More recently, in 2023, Netflix announced that Karen Fukuhara would voice Haru, the main character in Pokémon Concierge.
