Kate Ford, born on December 29, 1976, is a British actress. She is famous for playing the character Tracy Barlow in the TV show Coronation Street on ITV. She played this role from 2002 to 2007, and then again from 2010 until now.
Early Life and Education
Kate was born in Salford, a city in Greater Manchester, England. She went to school at Queen Elizabeth School in Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria. She also attended Blackpool and The Fylde College. Later, she studied acting at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art.
Acting Career
Kate's first acting job was in 1995. She appeared in the music video for The Beatles song "Free as a Bird". A few years later, in 2002, she was in a special episode of the TV show EastEnders. This episode was about the characters Ricky Butcher and Bianca Jackson.
Playing Tracy Barlow
Kate Ford took on the role of Tracy Barlow in Coronation Street in late 2002. She was the fourth actress to play Tracy. Before her, Christabel Finch, Holly Chamarette, and Dawn Acton played the character. Kate brought a new, tougher side to Tracy. She made the character more challenging and less misunderstood.
In 2007, Kate won two British Soap Awards. One was for Best Actress. The other was for Best Storyline, which she shared with Samia Smith and Bill Ward.
Kate left Coronation Street in April 2007 when her contract ended. After leaving, she filmed a role as Adele in a detective show called Blue Murder in June 2007. She later returned to Coronation Street in 2010.
Personal Life
Kate Ford married TV producer Jon Connerty on October 13, 2007. They had a son in 2008.
Kate and Jon decided to live separately in September 2013. Kate shared that focusing on her acting helped her during this time. She said that acting can be like "Doctor Theatre," meaning it helps you forget your worries while you are performing.
