Kate Garraway (born 4 May 1967) is a well-known English TV presenter and journalist. She has worked on many popular TV shows. In the 1990s, Kate was a journalist for ITV News. She later became a co-presenter for GMTV from 2000 to 2010. Today, she is a presenter on Mid Mornings with Kate Garraway on Smooth Radio. She also co-hosts the ITV show Good Morning Britain.

Early Life and Education

Kate Garraway was born Kathryn Mary Garraway. Her father worked for the government. Her mother was a teacher. Kate went to Dunmore Primary School. She also attended Fitzharrys School in Abingdon. Later, she studied at Bath College of Higher Education. She earned a degree in English and History. This college is now called Bath Spa University.

Her Career in Television

Kate started her TV career in 1989. She joined ITV News Central as a journalist. She reported on news and presented bulletins. In 1996, she became a co-presenter. This was for ITV News Meridian. A boss saw her presenting a short news report. They thought she was very talented.

Working at Sky News

In 1998, Kate moved to Sky News. She joined the show Sunrise. She presented the news alongside Martin Stanford.

Time at GMTV

Kate joined GMTV in September 2000. She co-presented GMTV Today. She often worked with Andrew Castle. Later, she also presented with Fiona Phillips and Emma Crosby. When GMTV changed in 2009, she hosted with Ben Shephard. She presented her last GMTV show in August 2010.

Other TV Shows

Kate has presented many other TV programmes. In 2004, she hosted Too Many Cooks. She was also a questioner on The People's Quiz in 2007. In 2009, she presented The Biggest Loser. She was also a regular guest on Wall of Fame.

Daybreak and Good Morning Britain

In September 2010, Kate became the entertainment editor for Daybreak. This show took over from GMTV. She sometimes filled in as the main presenter. In 2014, Daybreak was replaced by Good Morning Britain. Kate joined the new show. She became a main presenter there. She also occasionally presented The National Lottery Draws on BBC One. In 2017, she even had a small role in the TV show Hollyoaks.

Reality TV Appearances

In November 2019, Kate took part in I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!. She finished in fourth place. In 2025, she was on The Masked Singer. She performed as "Spag Bol".

Strictly Come Dancing

Kate was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing in 2007. She danced with professional dancer Anton du Beke. She often received low scores from the judges. But the public kept voting for her! She was saved many times. Kate finished in 8th place out of 14 couples. She was eliminated in week seven.

Her Career in Radio

Kate's journey in broadcasting started at BBC Radio Oxford. By 1994, she was training as a journalist. In 2012, she co-presented Weekend Breakfast on BBC Radio 2. She also filled in for a show on LBC Radio in 2013. Since March 2014, Kate has hosted Mid Mornings with Kate Garraway. You can hear her show on Smooth Radio.

Books Written by Kate

Kate has also written books. Her first book came out in 2017. It was called The Joy of Big Knickers (or learning to love the rest of your life). In 2021, she released The Power of Hope. Her latest book, The Strength of Love, was published in 2023.

Charity Work and Awards

Kate is an ambassador for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This charity helps make wishes come true for children with serious illnesses. In 2022, Kate received an important award. She was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). This was for her work in broadcasting, journalism, and charity.

She has also won awards for her documentaries. These films shared her personal experiences.

Derek became very ill in March 2020. He suffered from a very serious case of long COVID. He was in the hospital for a long time. Kate shared her family's journey through this difficult time. Derek sadly passed away in January 2024.

Kate is a fan of the football team Gillingham FC. She also found out she is related to Michael Bond. He is the person who created the famous Paddington Bear!
