Kate del Castillo Negrete Trillo, born on October 23, 1972, is a famous actress from Mexico and the United States. She became well-known at age 19 for her main role in the TV show Muchachitas in 1991. After that, she continued acting in many TV shows and movies in Latin America.

In 2011, Kate del Castillo became even more famous around the world for playing the main character in the TV series La Reina del Sur. Later, she starred in the Netflix show Ingobernable as Emilia Urquiza, a fictional First Lady of Mexico. She has also appeared in American shows like 'Til Jail Do Us Part (2022) and The Cleaning Lady (2024). Kate del Castillo also acts in Hollywood movies, including Under the Same Moon (2007) and Bad Boys for Life (2020).

Kate del Castillo started acting in 1978 in a film called The Last Escape. She became very popular in 1991 when she starred as Leticia in Muchachitas. This TV show was watched in many Latin American countries. The next year, she starred in Mágica juventud. Other important roles in the 1990s included Azul (1996) and La mentira (1998). In 1995, she was in the music video "Fuego de Noche, Nieve de Día" for singer Ricky Martin.

In the early 2000s, Kate del Castillo played main roles in TV shows like Ramona (2000) and Bajo la misma piel (2003-2004). In 2003, she first appeared on American TV in the show American Family. In 2009, she had a role in the TV show Weeds as Pilar Zuazo, a powerful woman in Mexican politics. She also performed in a play called Cartas de Amor (Love Letters) with actor Saúl Lisazo in 2002 and 2003.

Moving to Hollywood Films

In 2005, Kate del Castillo starred in the romantic comedy film American Visa. In 2006, she acted in the film Bordertown, which was her first role in a Hollywood movie. In 2011, Kate del Castillo played Teresa "La Mexicana" Mendoza in the TV show La reina del sur. This show was based on a book by Spanish author Arturo Pérez-Reverte. This role made her incredibly famous across Latin America. It was one of the most expensive TV shows ever made by Telemundo. The show was so popular that it came back for a second season in 2019. She also starred in Duenos del Paraiso in 2015.

Kate del Castillo has also been in several American TV shows, including CSI: Miami, Grimm, and Dallas. In 2015, she had a role in the comedy series Jane the Virgin.

In 2012, Kate del Castillo starred in the Mexican film Colosio: El asesinato. This movie was about the assassination of a Mexican presidential candidate. She later appeared in many American movies, such as No Good Deed (2014), The 33 (2015), and Bad Boys for Life (2020). In 2017, she starred in the Netflix political thriller series Ingobernable as the fictional First Lady of Mexico.

In 2019, Kate del Castillo performed in a play called The Way She Spoke in New York. Her performance earned her nominations for three important theater awards, making her the first Mexican actress to achieve this.

More recently, in 2022, del Castillo starred in the Peacock comedy-drama series 'Til Jail Do Us Part. She is also set to star in and produce Volver a caer, a TV show based on the famous book Anna Karenina. In 2024, she joined the cast of the Fox series The Cleaning Lady. She will also play the Mexican singer Chavela Vargas in a TV show and star in the comedy film The Biggest Fan for Netflix.

Her Personal Life

Kate del Castillo was married to football player Luis García Postigo from 2001 to 2004. She later married actor Aarón Díaz in 2009, but they separated in 2011.

Kate del Castillo is also known for being an activist. In 2012, she appeared in an ad for PETA. In the ad, she encouraged pet owners to keep their dogs and cats safely indoors. She became a citizen of the United States in September 2015 and lives in Los Angeles.
