Founding Kegedonce Press

In 1993, Kateri started Kegedonce Press. This is a special publishing house that focuses on Indigenous writers. It has published many important books by authors like Basil H. Johnston, Marilyn Dumont, and Gregory Scofield. Kateri is both the founder and the managing editor of this press.

Editing and International Projects

Kateri Akiwenzie-Damm has edited two collections of writings. One was called skins: Contemporary indigenous writing (2000), which she worked on with Josie Douglas. These collections feature works from different Indigenous cultures. They include artists from Canada, the United States, Hawaii, Australia, and New Zealand. Each collection was published with another Indigenous press from the southern hemisphere.

She also created the idea for the Honouring Words: International Indigenous Authors Celebration Tour. This was an international event that brought together Indigenous authors. They came from Canada, the US, Australia, and New Zealand. Kateri organized the first and most successful of these tours.
