Kateryna Volodymyrivna Volodko (born August 8, 1986) is a professional tennis player from Ukraine. She was known as Kateryna Bondarenko before she changed her name in 2022. She reached world No. 29 in singles and No. 9 in doubles, which were her highest rankings.
Kateryna won the doubles title at the 2008 Australian Open. She played with her sister, Alona Bondarenko, in that tournament. Her best singles result at a major tournament was reaching the quarterfinals at the 2009 US Open. Throughout her career, Kateryna has beaten many top players. These include famous names like Venus Williams and Ana Ivanovic.

About Kateryna's Life
Kateryna is the youngest of three sisters. Her older sisters, Valeria Bondarenko and Alona Bondarenko, also played professional tennis.
Kateryna was born in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine. Her parents, Vladimir and Natalia, introduced her to tennis when she was just four years old. She loves playing on hardcourts. In 2011, Kateryna married Denis Volodko. They have two children. Their first child, Karin, was born in 2013. Her second child was born in 2019. In 2022, she officially changed her name to Kateryna Volodko.
Kateryna's Tennis Journey
Winning Her First Big Titles in 2008
Kateryna started 2008 at the Australian Open. She lost early in singles. But in doubles, she and her sister Alona won the Australian Open title! They were not expected to win, but they beat a strong team in the final.
After this, Kateryna played for Ukraine in the Fed Cup. She helped Ukraine win against Belgium. Later, in Paris, she surprised everyone by beating a top player, Nadia Petrova. She and Alona also won the doubles title there. Kateryna then won her first singles title in Birmingham, UK. She beat Yanina Wickmayer in a very close final.
At the Beijing Olympics, Kateryna played in both singles and doubles. She lost to Elena Dementieva in singles. In doubles, she and Alona reached the semifinals. They lost to the famous Williams sisters and finished in fourth place. Kateryna ended 2008 ranked No. 63 in singles and No. 10 in doubles.
Reaching the US Open Quarterfinals in 2009
Kateryna started 2009 by beating a top player, Agnieszka Radwańska, at the Australian Open. She reached the third round there. Her biggest achievement in 2009 was at the US Open. She played very well and reached the quarterfinals. This was her best singles result at a Grand Slam tournament.
Taking a Break and Coming Back Strong
In 2012, Kateryna decided to take a break from tennis. She was pregnant with her first child. She played her last tournament at the US Open that year.
She returned to tennis in 2014 after becoming a mom. It was tough at first, but she worked hard to get back into shape. She won a couple of smaller tournaments in Monterrey and Macon.
In 2015, Kateryna continued her comeback. She won her first main draw match on the WTA Tour since returning. She even beat the legendary Venus Williams at the İstanbul Cup! This helped her get back into the top 90 players in the world.
More Success and Another Title
In 2016, Kateryna reached the third round of the Australian Open again. She also had her best performance at the Indian Wells tournament, reaching the fourth round. She beat several higher-ranked players that year. At the French Open, she upset the seventh-seeded Roberta Vinci.
In 2017, Kateryna won her second singles title. She won the Tashkent Open, beating Tímea Babos in the final. This was her first singles title since 2008!
Recent Years
Kateryna continued to play tennis in the following years. In 2020, she reached the quarterfinals at the Shenzhen Open. She also won a doubles title in Monterrey with her partner Sharon Fichman.
In 2023 and 2024, Kateryna, even at 38 years old, showed her skill by qualifying for big WTA 500 tournaments. This shows her dedication to the sport.
