Katharine Isobel Murray (born November 2, 1981), known as Katharine Isabelle, is a Canadian actress. She is famous for her roles in many horror films. She started acting in 1989 in the TV show MacGyver. She became well-known for playing Ginger Fitzgerald in the movies Ginger Snaps, Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed, and Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning.
In 2014, Katharine Isabelle won the Fangoria Chainsaw Award for Best Actress for her role as Mary Mason in the Canadian horror film American Mary. This award is given to top performers in horror movies.

Early Life and Family
Katharine Isabelle Murray was born on November 2, 1981, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Her father, Graeme Murray, is a production designer who has won two Emmy Awards for his work on The X-Files. Her mother, Gail Johnson Murray, is a writer and producer. Katharine's grandparents on both sides came from Scotland. Her half-brother, Joshua Murray, is a director and used to be an actor.
Katharine's Acting Career
Katharine Isabelle has used a few different names during her acting career.
She began acting when she was eight years old. Her first role was as Katie Murray in the TV series MacGyver in 1989. After that, she had small roles in other TV shows and movies. Some of these include Cold Front, Immediate Family, The Last Winter, and Salt Water Moose.
Katharine has even worked with her family members. She worked with her half-brother Joshua Murray in Cold Front and The Last Winter. In 1998, she worked with her father Graeme Murray on an episode of The X-Files called "Schizogeny".
In 1998, she played Lindsay Clark in the movie Disturbing Behavior. She acted alongside stars like Katie Holmes and James Marsden.
Becoming Ginger Fitzgerald
Katharine first became famous for her role as Ginger Fitzgerald in the movie Ginger Snaps. In this film, she starred with actress Emily Perkins, who played her sister, Brigitte Fitzgerald. The movie is about two sisters who are hunted by a monster while making an amateur horror film. One sister gets bitten, and her wounds heal super fast, making them wonder what is hunting them.
Katharine also played Ginger in the next two movies of the series: Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed (2004) and Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning.
Other Notable Roles
Two years later, Katharine appeared in the movie Insomnia. This detective thriller was directed by Christopher Nolan. She acted with famous stars like Al Pacino, Robin Williams, and Hilary Swank.
In 2012, Katharine Isabelle starred in the horror film American Mary, directed by twin sisters Jen and Sylvia Soska. This movie earned her many awards at different horror film festivals, including the "Fangoria Chainsaw Awards".
In 2008, Katharine won a Gemini Award for her role in The Englishman's Boy. The Gemini Awards are important awards for Canadian television. She later worked with Emily Perkins again in Another Cinderella Story.
Katharine continued to work with the Soska sisters in 2014. She played a main role in their horror movie sequel, See No Evil 2. In 2019, Katharine Isabelle was cast as Vera Stone in the Netflix horror-drama series, The Order.
Katharine's Personal Life
Katharine Isabelle is uncomfortable with the sight of real blood. This is sometimes called blood phobia.
In 2003, Katharine became very sick from a viral infection. This illness caused one of her lungs to stop working and her kidneys to fail. She went into a coma and needed a special machine called a ventilator to help her breathe. Katharine shared this story in 2020 on her Instagram account, letting her fans know she had recovered from this serious health challenge.
