Then, he started college at the University of Oklahoma in January 2011.
College Football Career
Playing for Oklahoma
When Kendal joined the Oklahoma Sooners in 2011, he was "redshirted." This means he practiced with the team but didn't play in any games that year. It helped him get ready for future seasons. He also didn't play in 2012.
In 2013, Kendal was supposed to compete for the starting quarterback spot. However, he broke his right foot during practice. He was able to return later that season. He played in two games as a backup quarterback. One of these games was against the #6 ranked Oklahoma State team. In January 2014, Kendal decided to graduate from the University of Oklahoma. He then planned to transfer to another college to keep playing football.
Playing for Utah
After graduating from Oklahoma, Kendal transferred to the University of Utah. He was able to play right away. At Utah, he competed for the starting quarterback job again. He played against Travis Wilson, who had been the starting quarterback for two seasons. Wilson was named the starter, but Kendal still got to play.
In a game against the #8 ranked UCLA team, Kendal came into the game when the offense was struggling. He helped lead Utah to an exciting 30-28 victory over UCLA. In the next game, he started against Oregon State. However, he was replaced by Wilson at halftime. Later, in November, Kendal started a game against the #4 ranked Oregon team. Sadly, he tore a ligament in his knee (called an ACL) during that game. This injury ended his 2014 season.
Professional Football Career
Washington Redskins
In 2016, Kendal Thompson signed with the Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent. This means he wasn't chosen in the NFL draft but was still signed by a team. He was later moved to the team's practice squad. The practice squad allows players to train with the team. After spending his first year on the practice squad, he signed a new contract with the Redskins in 2017.
In August 2017, Kendal was waived (released) by the Redskins due to an injury. He was then placed on injured reserve, which is a list for players who are hurt and can't play. He was released from the team later that month.
Los Angeles Rams
On July 30, 2018, Kendal signed with the Los Angeles Rams. Again, he was waived due to an injury in August 2018 and placed on injured reserve. He was released by the Rams in December 2018.
