Kennedy is a small community in Chautauqua County, New York. It is known as a "hamlet," which is a type of small village. It's also a "census-designated place" (CDP), meaning it's an area defined by the government for counting people. Kennedy is located in the town of Poland.
In 2020, about 473 people lived in Kennedy. The community has had a few different names over the years. From 1805 to 1841, it was called Kennedy Mills. This name honored Thomas Ruston Kennedy, who built mills there. In 1841, the name changed to Kennedyville. Later, it was even called Falconer for a short time. Finally, in 1860, it became Kennedy again at the request of an Erie Railroad official. A railroad station was built in 1861, and the name "Kennedy" was put on it.
Where is Kennedy Located?
Kennedy is found in the eastern part of Chautauqua County, New York. It sits in the valley of Conewango Creek. This creek eventually flows into the Allegheny River.
A main road, U.S. Route 62, crosses New York State Route 394 right in the middle of Kennedy. This is on the north side of Conewango Creek. If you travel south on US 62 for about 1 mile, you'll reach Exit 14 of the Southern Tier Expressway. This expressway is part of Interstate 86 and New York State Route 17.
From this exit, it's about 9 miles west to Jamestown. Jamestown is the biggest city in this area. If you go east, it's about 24 miles to Salamanca.
