Poland is a small town located in Chautauqua County, New York. It is an official "town" within the state's administrative system. In 2020, about 2,201 people lived here. The town is situated on the eastern edge of Chautauqua County.

History of Poland, New York
The area that is now the town of Poland was first settled by people in 1804. The town itself was officially created in 1832. It was formed from a part of the nearby town of Ellicott.
In the early days, the town's economy mainly depended on forestry, which means cutting down trees for wood. After most of the trees were gone, farming became the main way people made a living.
Geography and Location
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town of Poland covers a total area of about 95.5 square kilometers (about 36.9 square miles). Most of this area, 94.8 square kilometers (36.6 square miles), is land. Only a small part, 0.7 square kilometers (0.3 square miles), is water.
Major roads pass through the town. The Southern Tier Expressway, which includes Interstate 86 and New York State Route 17, goes through the northern part of Poland. Also, U.S. Route 62 and New York State Route 394 run through the town.
