Kenneth Eugene Silverman (born February 5, 1936 – died July 7, 2017) was an American writer and teacher. He wrote many biographies, which are books about people's lives. He won important awards like the Pulitzer Prize for his book about Cotton Mather. This book was called The Life and Times of Cotton Mather. Mr. Silverman was an expert in early American writing. He taught English at New York University until 2001.

Kenneth Silverman was born in Manhattan on February 5, 1936. He went to Stuyvesant High School. Later, he studied English at Columbia University. He earned several degrees there.
Mr. Silverman won many awards for his writing. He received the Pulitzer Prize and the Bancroft Prize for his book on Cotton Mather. He also won an Edgar Award for his biography of Edgar Allan Poe. For his work on Harry Houdini, he won the Christopher Literary Award.
Kenneth Silverman passed away on July 7, 2017. He died from lung cancer in Manhattan.
