The Kent City Mobile Home Park was once listed as a federal Superfund Site. This means it was a place where hazardous waste needed to be cleaned up.

A buried 55-gallon drum with dry cleaning chemicals had polluted the soil and groundwater. This included the water well that served the mobile home park.

Cleanup efforts started in 1984. They involved:

  • Replacing the contaminated water well.
  • Removing the drum and the polluted soil.
  • Regularly checking the groundwater to make sure it was clean.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) removed the site from the Superfund list in 1995. This meant the cleanup was complete and the area was safe.
