Kenton Scott Edelin (born May 24, 1962 – died December 24, 2022) was an American basketball player and a lawyer. He played for one season in the National Basketball Association (NBA), which is the top professional basketball league in North America.
Kenton Edelin's College Basketball Journey
Kenton Edelin went to the University of Virginia for college. When he first started, he wasn't given a basketball scholarship. Instead, he played his first year on the junior varsity team. This is like a practice team for younger players.
After his first year, Kenton grew two inches taller! This helped him a lot. In his second year, he made it onto the main varsity team. By his senior year, he was a key player. He helped his team reach the 1984 Final Four. This is a very big deal in college basketball, where only the top four teams in the country compete for the championship.
During his time in college, Kenton averaged about 3.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in each game he played.
Playing in the NBA
After finishing college, Kenton Edelin was chosen in the 1984 NBA Draft. The Indiana Pacers picked him in the seventh round, as the 140th player overall.
He played 10 games for the Pacers during the 1984–85 NBA season. In these games, he averaged 1.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1 assist per game. An assist is when a player passes the ball to a teammate who then scores.
Life After Basketball
After his first season in the NBA, Kenton decided to stop playing professional basketball. He went back to the University of Virginia to study law.
After becoming a lawyer, he worked as an attorney. He also became a player agent, which means he helped other basketball players manage their careers and contracts.
Sadly, Kenton Edelin had some health problems in March 2022. He passed away on December 24, 2022, in Northern Virginia, at the age of 60.
