The Kern River Canyon is a deep valley in Kern County, California. It is found in the southern part of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
This amazing canyon was carved out by the Kern River over a very long time. It links the Kern River Valley with the southern San Joaquin Valley. A road called California State Route 178 (also known as Kern Canyon Road) follows the canyon. It goes from east of Bakersfield all the way up to the Lake Isabella area.
