Kerry Martin Boagni (born September 24, 1964) is an American former professional basketball player. He was born in California. Kerry played college basketball for the Cal State Fullerton Titans. The Utah Jazz picked him in the 1986 NBA draft. After that, he had a very successful career in New Zealand. He played most of his years for the Wellington Saints.

Kerry Boagni's Early Life and High School

Kerry Boagni was born in Los Angeles, California. He went to Serra High School in Gardena, California. There, he became a star basketball player. As a forward, he scored about 24 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in each game. He also shot the ball very well, making 61% of his shots.

In 1982, Kerry was named to Sporting News' Top 10 list for high school players. He also joined the USA Men's U.S. Olympic Festival team. He was chosen for many All-America teams, which means he was one of the best high school players in the country. Kerry played in the 1982 McDonald's All-American Boys Game. This game featured future NBA stars like Dell Curry and Kenny Walker.

College Basketball Journey

Kerry Boagni was a highly wanted player by many colleges. He chose to play basketball at the University of Kansas. In his first year, he was the team's second-highest scorer. He averaged 14 points per game and scored ten or more points in 23 games. He was also named to the Big Eight Conference all-freshman team. This means he was one of the best first-year players in his league.

After playing 10 games in his second year at Kansas, Kerry moved to California State University, Fullerton. He played very well there. Because of his strong college performance, the Utah Jazz selected Kerry Boagni. They picked him as the 105th player overall in the 1986 NBA draft.

Professional Career in New Zealand

In 1988, Kerry Boagni moved to New Zealand. He started a very successful career in the NBL with the Wellington Saints. Kerry and another American player, Kenny McFadden, became legends for the club. They helped the Saints win the 1988 championship. Both players were also named to the New Zealand NBL All-Star Five.

Kerry played five seasons for the Saints. Then, in 1993, he moved to play for the Hawke's Bay Hawks. Between 1993 and 1998, Kerry played for the Hawks. He also had a second time playing with the Saints. He spent one season with the North Harbour Kings.

During his NBL career, Kerry played in 267 games. He scored 6,929 points, which is the second-highest total ever. He also had 1,870 rebounds, ranking him ninth all-time. In 1999, he became a player-coach for the North Otago Penguins. He led them to win the Conference Basketball League championship.

Family Life

Kerry Boagni's former partner, Jane McMeeken, was a captain of the New Zealand women's national basketball team. Their daughter, Tessa, also plays basketball. She has played in the Women's Basketball Championship. This is the top women's basketball competition in New Zealand.
