Kevan Hall (born in 1957 in Detroit, Michigan) is a famous American fashion designer. He is well-known for creating stunning dresses worn by celebrities on the red carpet. From 1997 to 2000, he was the main designer for the fashion house Halston.
In 2001, Kevan Hall started his own fashion brand. It includes fancy evening gowns, everyday suits for women, and even items for the home. Many famous people have worn his designs. These include Anne Hathaway, Naomi Campbell, Celine Dion, and Michelle Obama. In 2018, he also helped start the Black Design Collective. This is a group that supports Black designers.
Early Life and Education
Kevan Hall was born in 1957 in Detroit, Michigan. He was the youngest of three children. His brother, Vondie Curtis-Hall, is a well-known actor and film director.
From a very young age, Kevan knew what he wanted to do. By age seven, he already wanted to be a fashion designer!
He went to the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles. This is where he met his wife, Deborah.
Fashion Career Highlights
Kevan Hall began his career helping another designer in Los Angeles. In 1983, he started his own company, Kevan Hall Couture. His designs were sold in big, fancy stores like Neiman Marcus and Saks.
In 1997, Kevan Hall was asked to help the famous fashion brand Halston. This brand was known for dressing icons like Jacqueline Kennedy and Elizabeth Taylor. Kevan worked as their main designer from 1998 to 2000.
In 2002, he launched his own clothing line, the Kevan Hall Collection. This line focused on ready-to-wear fashion.
His designs have been worn by many Hollywood stars. These include Salma Hayek, Charlize Theron, and Michelle Obama.
Kevan Hall on TV
Kevan Hall and his designs have appeared on many TV shows. He was on Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane. On that show, he dressed Kimora Lee Simmons for a big fashion event called the Met Gala.
He was also a guest judge on America’s Next Top Model. The show featured his Spring 2009 collection as a runway challenge. Adrienne Maloof from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills also showed off his collection. This happened during a fashion show for her new shoe line.
Kevan Hall has appeared on other national TV shows too. He discussed fashion trends on shows like Inside Edition and E!'s Fashion Police.
In 2024, Kevan Hall opened a special pop-up shop in Cannes, France. This was during the famous Cannes Film Festival. His Spring 2024 Collection was inspired by the French artist Sonia Delaunay. He named it Côte d'Azur, after the beautiful French Riviera.
Awards and Recognition
Kevan Hall has received many awards for his amazing work in fashion. After finishing school at FIDM, he won the Peacock Award. This was for his outstanding fashion designs.
In 1989, the NAACP named him the Great American Designer. In 2005, Life & Style Magazine called him Stylemaker of the Year. He was also named Designer of the Year at the 47th Annual Gold Coast Fashion Awards in 2002.
