Kevin Wimmer (born on November 15, 1992) is an Austrian football player. He plays as a centre back (a defender) for Slovan Bratislava.
Kevin started his football journey with LASK in Austria. His great playing there helped him move to the German club 1. FC Köln in 2012. In the 2013–14 season, Kevin helped Köln achieve a new record in the 2. Bundesliga by only letting in 20 goals. This helped them get promoted to the top German league, the Bundesliga.
After playing well in Germany, he joined the Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur in England. This move cost about £4.3 million. However, he didn't play as much as he hoped at Tottenham. This was because other defenders, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, were playing very well.
After two seasons in London, Kevin moved to Stoke City in August 2017 for £18 million. He found it hard to get regular playing time at Stoke after some difficult games. He then went on loan to other clubs like Hannover 96, Mouscron, and Karlsruher SC.

Club Career Highlights
Playing for 1. FC Köln
In June 2012, Kevin Wimmer moved from Austrian club LASK to the German team 1. FC Köln. The transfer fee was €250,000. He played his first game for Köln on August 5, 2012, in a 1–0 loss. Kevin quickly became a key player in Köln's defense. On November 29, 2013, he scored his first goal for the team in a 3–0 win.
During the 2013–14 season, Kevin helped his club set a record in the 2. Bundesliga. They only allowed 20 goals, which helped them move up to the Bundesliga, Germany's top league. Kevin continued to play well in the Bundesliga. He helped Köln stay in the league. The team even had a record nine 0–0 draws. In the 2014–15 season, Kevin started 32 matches. A football magazine called Kicker named him the seventh-best defender in the league.
Time at Tottenham Hotspur
On May 29, 2015, Kevin Wimmer joined Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur. He signed a five-year contract. The transfer fee was about £4.3 million. His first game for Tottenham was on July 30 against the MLS All-Stars. Tottenham lost that game 2–1.
Kevin's first start for the club was on August 4, 2015. It was a 2–0 loss to Real Madrid in the Audi Cup. At first, Kevin didn't play much in league games. This was because other defenders, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld, were playing very well together. His coach, Mauricio Pochettino, decided to keep Kevin. He wanted to have enough defenders in case of injuries.
Kevin finally got his chance on January 23, 2016. He came on as a substitute after Vertonghen got injured. This was in a 3–1 win against Crystal Palace. With Vertonghen out for about two months, Kevin played regularly. He played well as Vertonghen's replacement. He started 15 games in different competitions. In the 9 league games Kevin started, Tottenham only let in six goals. The team reached second place in the league. After this good season, Kevin signed a new five-year contract.
For the 2016–17 season, Kevin hoped to play more. However, he was still often on the bench. An injury to Toby Alderweireld gave Kevin another chance. He played his first Premier League game that season on November 6. It was against Arsenal. In that game, Kevin accidentally scored an own goal, and the match ended in a 1–1 draw.
Moving to Stoke City

Kevin played his first game for Stoke on September 9, 2017. It was a 2–2 draw against Manchester United.
However, Kevin's time at Stoke started poorly. Fans were not happy with his playing, especially after a big loss. His performances did not get better. The new manager, Paul Lambert, put Kevin on a special training plan to improve his fitness. Kevin didn't play any games under Lambert. Stoke then moved down to a lower league. Many Stoke fans called Kevin a 'flop'.
In May 2018, Kevin went on loan to Bundesliga club Hannover 96. He played 24 games for Hannover. The team finished 17th and also moved down to a lower league. He didn't play enough games for the move to become permanent.
On August 31, 2019, Kevin joined Belgian team Royal Excel Mouscron on loan. He played 18 games for Mouscron. The Belgian season ended early in April 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. On February 1, 2021, Kevin went on loan again. This time, he joined German side Karlsruher SC.

On May 28, 2021, Kevin's contract with Stoke was ended. This allowed him to join SK Rapid Wien in Austria for free.
Joining Slovan Bratislava
After his contract with Rapid Wien ended, Kevin Wimmer signed with Slovan Bratislava on June 8, 2023. On September 18, 2024, Kevin scored his first goal for Slovan Bratislava. This goal came in a UEFA Champions League match against Celtic.
