Kieron Adrian Pollard (born 12 May 1987) is a famous Trinidadian cricketer. He used to be the captain of the West Indies cricket team in shorter cricket games. Pollard is known as an all-rounder, meaning he is good at both batting and bowling.
He plays for many Twenty20 (T20) teams around the world. He also captains teams like MI Cape Town, MI Emirates, and MI New York. Kieron Pollard was part of the West Indies team that won the 2012 ICC World Twenty20. He is famous for hitting six sixes in one over during a match against Sri Lanka. This is a very rare achievement in cricket!
In September 2019, Pollard became the captain of the West Indies One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) teams. In March 2020, he was the first cricketer to play in 500 T20 matches. He never played Test cricket, which is the longest form of the game. On April 20, 2022, Pollard announced he was retiring from international cricket. He also retired from the IPL in November 2022, after playing for the Mumbai Indians for 13 seasons. Now, he works as the batting coach for the Mumbai Indians and is also an assistant coach for the England cricket team.

Kieron Pollard's Early Life and Cricket Start
Kieron Pollard was born in Tacarigua, Trinidad and Tobago. He grew up there with his single mother and two younger sisters. His family faced financial challenges. Pollard once said it "wasn't ideal" when his mum worried about money.
He started playing cricket early. In 2005, he played for Trinidad and Tobago in a youth tournament. Then, he was chosen for the West Indian U-19 cricket team to visit Pakistan. Pollard was the top scorer for the West Indies in the first youth One Day International, making 53 runs quickly. He also scored another half-century in the second match.
In 2006, Pollard was part of the 2006 U/19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka. He didn't score many runs but did take two wickets in a game against Australia.
Starting Senior Cricket
In July 2006, Pollard made his first senior cricket appearance for Trinidad and Tobago. This was in a T20 competition against the Cayman Islands. He took six wickets in the tournament. In the semi-final, he scored an amazing 83 runs from just 38 balls, hitting 7 sixes! This helped his team reach the final.
Six months later, he played his first-class match against Barbados. He scored a century (100 runs), with 86 of his 126 runs coming from fours or sixes. His strong performances made him a possible choice for the Cricket World Cup. He called being selected in the early squad a "dream come true."
Pollard continued to play well, scoring half-centuries and another century. He also showed his bowling skills, taking four wickets against Jamaica. Trinidad and Tobago won the 2006–07 KFC Cup, and Pollard was the top run-scorer.
In the 2008–09 West Indies Cricket Board Cup, Pollard's bowling improved. He took nine wickets and helped Trinidad and Tobago reach the final again.
Playing in Leagues Around the World
In 2009, during the Champions League T20, Pollard hit 54 runs in just 18 balls for Trinidad and Tobago. This amazing hitting made other teams notice him. He also played for the South Australian Redbacks in Australia and Somerset County Cricket Club in England.
In 2010, Pollard had a very successful season with Somerset. He scored 354 runs and took 29 wickets. His great performance led to him being offered a central contract with the West Indies. However, he turned it down because he wanted to keep playing in different T20 leagues.
Kieron Pollard's International Cricket Journey
Pollard was called back to the West Indies team for a series against Sri Lanka. Later, he played for the Stanford Superstars T20 squad. In a big match against England, Pollard took two important wickets. This helped the Super Stars win easily.
After his great performances in the Indian Premier League for the Mumbai Indians, Pollard was chosen for the West Indies squad for the 2010 ICC World Twenty20.
In December 2019, Pollard became the fourth West Indies batsman to score 1,000 runs in T20 International cricket. On March 4, 2020, he became the first cricketer ever to play in 500 T20 matches. In the same game, he also reached 10,000 runs in the T20 format.
A very special moment happened on March 3, 2021. Kieron Pollard hit six sixes in one over against Sri Lanka. He became only the third player in international cricket history to do this!
In September 2021, Pollard was named captain of the West Indies team for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. On April 20, 2022, he announced his retirement from all international cricket.

Playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL)
Kieron Pollard's amazing performances in other T20 leagues made him a highly desired player in the 2010 IPL auction. Many teams wanted him, but the Mumbai Indians won the bid.
On November 15, 2022, Pollard announced his retirement from playing in the IPL. He had played for the Mumbai Indians for 13 seasons. After retiring, he became the batting coach for the Mumbai Indians.
Pollard's IPL Highlights
- 2010: Pollard made his debut for Mumbai Indians. He showed his talent later in the season, scoring a quick 45 runs from just 13 balls. He also helped his team reach the final for the first time.
- 2012: He had a great game against Rajasthan Royals, scoring 64 runs from 33 balls and taking 4 wickets.
- 2013: This was a fantastic year for Pollard. He played many match-winning innings. In the final against Chennai Super Kings, he scored 60 runs and helped Mumbai win their first IPL title!
- 2015: This is often called Pollard's best IPL season. Mumbai Indians had a slow start, but Pollard's powerful hitting helped them recover. He scored many quick runs and took important wickets. In the final, he scored 36 runs, helping Mumbai win their second IPL title.
- 2019: Pollard played some crucial innings. In one match, he scored 46 runs from 26 balls to help Mumbai defend a low score. In another game, he made an incredible 83 runs from just 31 balls, hitting 10 sixes! Mumbai won their fourth IPL title, and Pollard was named the 'Super Striker of the match' in the final.
- 2020: In his 11th year with the Mumbai Indians, Pollard became the first player to play 150 matches for the team. He played a key role as the team won their fifth IPL title.

- Global T20 Canada: In 2018, he played for the Toronto Nationals and was their top wicket-taker.
