Hyoyeon, whose full name is Kim Hyo-yeon, was born on September 22, 1989. She is a talented South Korean singer, dancer, and DJ. People also know her as DJ Hyo.

She became famous as a member of the girl group Girls' Generation in August 2007. This group became one of the most popular K-pop groups around the world. Hyoyeon has also been part of other music projects from SM Entertainment. These include Girls' Generation-Oh!GG and Got the Beat.

Hyoyeon released her own songs like "Mystery" (2016) and "Wannabe" (2017). She then started her solo career as Hyo with the song "Sober" in 2018. She has also appeared on many South Korean TV shows.

Hyoyeon's Early Life and Dance Training

Hyoyeon was born in Incheon, South Korea. She grew up with her parents and her younger brother, Kim Min-gu. Hyoyeon started learning dance when she was in elementary school.

She learned different dance styles like hip hop, jazz, and Latin dance at a local school. In 1999, she joined Winners Dance School. This school was famous for teaching various hip-hop styles. There, she met Miss A's Min. They formed a dance team called Little Winners. They performed at many shows and gained attention.

Hyoyeon joined SM Entertainment when she was 11 years old. She went to the audition because her mom wanted to meet the group H.O.T. In 2004, she went to Beijing to study Chinese. She also received dance lessons from top choreographers. Before joining Girls' Generation, she worked with a choreographer for Janet Jackson. She was also a silhouette dancer for BoA at a music festival in 2005.

Hyoyeon's Music Career

Starting with Girls' Generation (2007–2017)

Hyoyeon officially became a member of Girls' Generation in August 2007. This was a South Korean girl group created by SM Entertainment. Before their official debut, the group performed their first song, "Into the New World". On August 5, 2007, they officially debuted on a TV show called Inkigayo.

In November 2007, Girls' Generation released their first album. In January 2009, they released their EP (Extended Play) Gee. The song "Gee" was number one on Music Bank for nine weeks. This was a record at the time.

Their second album, Oh!, came out in January 2010. In September 2010, Girls' Generation released a Japanese version of "Genie". This was their first song in Japan. Their first Japanese album came out in June 2011. It was very successful and reached the top of the Japanese Oricon Albums Chart.

Girls' Generation's third Korean album, The Boys, was released in October 2011. This album was also released in the United States. In November 2011, Hyoyeon joined the TV show Invincible Youth 2.

In April 2012, Hyoyeon competed on Dancing with the Stars: Season 2. She and her partner, Kim Hyung-seok, won second place. In October 2012, Hyoyeon joined a special dance group called Younique. They released a song called "Maxstep."

In June 2013, Hyoyeon became a coach on the TV show Dancing 9. In February 2015, she appeared in Amber's "Shake That Brass" music video. In July, Hyoyeon released her own book called Hyo Style. It shared tips on beauty, fashion, and lifestyle.

In May 2015, she joined a Korean-Chinese TV show called Star Advent. In June, Hyoyeon started her own reality show, Hyoyeon's One Million Likes. Girls' Generation released their fifth album, Lion Heart, in August 2015. In September, Hyoyeon competed in a DJing TV show called Mash Up.

In June 2016, Hyoyeon competed on the TV show Hit The Stage. This show featured dancers collaborating with professionals. In August 2016, she formed a group called Triple T. They released a song called "Born to Be Wild." In December 2016, Hyoyeon released her first solo song, "Mystery."

In June 2017, Hyoyeon released her second solo song, "Wannabe." A month later, Girls' Generation released their sixth album, Holiday Night. This album celebrated the group's tenth anniversary.

DJ Career and New Groups (2018–Present)

On April 12, 2018, SM Entertainment announced that Hyoyeon would release a new song called "Sober." She would use the new stage name Hyo. This song was a tropical-future house song. She also started performing as a DJ at clubs and festivals.

In August 2018, Hyoyeon became part of Girls' Generation's second sub-unit, Oh!GG. This group included five members who stayed with SM Entertainment. They released their first song, "Lil' Touch," in September. In November, Hyoyeon released her second song as DJ Hyo, called "Punk Right Now."

On July 20, 2019, Hyoyeon released a new song, "Badster." She helped create and write this song. It had both Korean and English versions. On July 22, 2020, Hyoyeon released "Dessert" with rappers Loopy and Soyeon.

In May 2020, Hyoyeon joined the TV show Good Girl. On August 9, 2021, Hyoyeon released the song "Second" with BIBI. This song appeared on the Billboard World Digital Songs chart.

On December 27, 2021, Hyoyeon was announced as a member of the supergroup Got the Beat. This group also included her Girls' Generation groupmate Taeyeon. The group debuted on January 3, 2022, with the song "Step Back."

On May 2, 2022, SM Entertainment announced that Hyoyeon would release her first EP called Deep. It came out on May 16. It included the main song "Deep" and other songs. In May 2022, Girls' Generation announced they would have a full group comeback for their fifteenth anniversary. Their seventh album, Forever 1, was released in August 2022. It reached number two on the Circle Chart.

On September 26, 2024, Hyoyeon released the single "Retro Romance".
