Geography of Kimmswick
Kimmswick is right next to the mighty Mississippi River. This river is one of the longest in North America.
The city covers a total area of about 0.23 square miles (0.61 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
A nearby city called Imperial used to be known as West Kimmswick. Today, Kimmswick is completely surrounded by Imperial. This means Kimmswick is like a small island of land within Imperial.
History of Kimmswick
Kimmswick was officially planned out in 1859 by a person named Theodore Kimm. He decided to name the new town after himself.
A post office was opened in Kimmswick in 1858, even before the town was fully planned. This post office is still open today.
Two important places in Kimmswick are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These are the Kimmswick Historic District and the Windsor Harbor Road Bridge. Being on this list means they are special and important historical sites.

Fun Festivals
The Kimmswick Apple Butter Festival is a very popular event held every fall. It is the city's biggest celebration. More than 100,000 visitors usually come to enjoy it.
The streets of Kimmswick fill up with 500 to 600 vendors. These vendors sell food, drinks, and crafts. There is also live music playing throughout the town. You can hear bluegrass, country rock, and dulcimer music.
Visitors can park at nearby Windsor High School. Buses run all day to take people to and from the festival. The festival happens every year at the end of October.
