Kincaid Park is a huge park in Anchorage, Alaska. It covers about 1,516.78-acre (6.1382 km2) of land. You can find it at 9401 W. Raspberry Road. The park is surrounded by water on two sides: Turnagain Arm to the south and Knik Arm to the west. To the north, it's next to the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport.

Kincaid Park is famous for its many trails. People love to visit all year round!

Park History and Development

Kincaid Park was created in 1978. It grew to include an old Nike missile site that was no longer used. The park keeps changing to meet the needs of the people who live in Anchorage.

New Features Over Time

  • Disc Golf Course: An 18-hole disc golf course was finished in 2009. It winds through the wooded Mize loop area.
  • Soccer Fields: Several new soccer fields opened in 2010 near the main building (chalet).
  • Stadium Soccer Field: In 2012, a special soccer field with artificial grass and seats for spectators was built.

Nature and Wildlife

Most of Kincaid Park is covered in forests. You'll see trees like birch, cottonwood, and spruce.

Animals You Might See

The park is home to many wild animals.

  • Moose: These large animals are seen most often.
  • Lynx: A type of wild cat.
  • Bear: Black bears can be found here.
  • Fox: Keep an eye out for these clever animals.

Park Access and Trails

The park gates are open every day from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The main building, called the chalet, is open from 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM on most days. On holidays and Sundays, it closes earlier at 5:00 PM.

Connecting Trails

The Tony Knowles Coastal Trail starts at Kincaid Park. This trail goes all the way to downtown Anchorage. It's a fantastic path for biking or skiing.

Trails Inside the Park

  • Cross-Country Ski Trails: There are about 60 kilometers (almost 37 miles) of these trails. They are also used by hikers and bikers in summer.
  • Single Track Biking Trails: The park has about 27 kilometers (about 17 miles) of newer trails just for mountain biking.

Kincaid Park, along with Point Woronzof Park, offers some of the best wild nature experiences close to Anchorage.
