Exploring Point Woronzof Park
This park covers about 191.7-acre (0.776 km2) of land. It sits right next to the Knik Arm, which is part of Cook Inlet. The park is found between two points, Point Woronzof and Point Campbell. The famous Tony Knowles Coastal Trail runs along the western side of the park, offering amazing ocean views.
Wildlife and Plants
Point Woronzof Park is full of nature, much like its bigger neighbor, Kincaid Park. You might spot animals like fox, lynx, and many moose living here. The park's trees include Birch (especially on the hills), Spruce, cottonwood, and Alder. You can also find native plants like Devil's club and Elderberry.
A Glimpse into History
During World War II, the army built two small houses on the northern part of Point Woronzof. These houses were on a bluff overlooking Cook Inlet. South of these houses, there was a battery emplacement, which is a place where big guns were set up. Even after the war ended, the remains of this structure could still be seen.
Outdoor Adventures
Even though you might hear some airplane noise from time to time, Point Woronzof Park offers a wonderful semi-wilderness experience. It's a fantastic spot for Anchorage residents to enjoy nature, similar to what you'd find at Kincaid Park further to the southwest. The park's large parking lot at Point Woronzof is a popular spot, especially in summer, for watching beautiful sunsets over Cook Inlet with a view of Mount Susitna.
