Kingsmill Resort is a fun place for vacations, meetings, and golf in the eastern United States. It is located in James City County, Virginia, near Williamsburg, Virginia. The resort sits on land that was once part of the historic Kingsmill Plantation.

The resort was started in the 1970s by a company called Anheuser-Busch. It was part of bigger plans for the area around Colonial Williamsburg. In 2010, Xanterra Parks and Resorts bought Kingsmill Resort. Xanterra is owned by a billionaire named Philip Anschutz. Later, in 2017, Escalante Golf became the new owner.

Kingsmill Resort has 425 rooms and five restaurants. It also has a spa, a fitness center, a marina, and a tennis center with 15 courts. There are three championship golf courses. Two courses are part of the resort, and one is private. Many professional golf tournaments have been held here, including events from the LPGA Tour and PGA Tour.

The area around Kingsmill Resort is full of interesting places. You can visit the Historic Triangle of Colonial Virginia, which includes Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg, and Yorktown. These places are connected by the Colonial Parkway. There are also exciting theme parks like Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Water Country USA.

How Kingsmill Resort Started

In the early 1970s, Anheuser-Busch began developing Kingsmill Resort. This was on a large piece of land, about 2,900 acres (12 km2), that used to be part of the Kingsmill Plantation. Anheuser-Busch, a company known for making drinks, also built other things in the Williamsburg area. These included the Busch Gardens Williamsburg theme park and office buildings.

The company's owner, August Busch, II, worked with Winthrop Rockefeller to develop the area. Winthrop Rockefeller was involved with Colonial Williamsburg. Anheuser-Busch later bought Water Country USA, a local water park, in the 1990s.

Changes in Ownership

Towards the end of the 1900s and into the early 2000s, Anheuser-Busch faced a lot of competition. In 2008, a larger company from Belgium called InBev bought Anheuser-Busch. The new owners decided to sell parts of the company that were not about making drinks.

Many people in the area wondered who would buy the theme parks and the resort. Anheuser-Busch had been a big employer and supporter of the community for many years.

New Owners Take Over

After InBev bought Anheuser-Busch, the Blackstone Group bought the company's 10 theme parks, including the two near Williamsburg.

In July 2010, Xanterra Parks and Resorts announced it would buy and run Kingsmill Resort. Xanterra has a long history, starting as the Fred Harvey Company in 1875. Philip Anschutz, a billionaire, bought Xanterra in 2008. Xanterra has managed many places in national and state parks across the United States.

Then, in March 2017, a company called Escalante Golf, based in Fort Worth, acquired Kingsmill Resort.
