History of Kingswood

Kingswood got its name from the family of Governor Philip Gidley King. His family owned a lot of land in this area. Back then, the land was covered in thick forests.

In 1881, this area was known as Crossroads. This was because of where the Great Western Highway and The Northern Road (now Parker Street) met. The name officially changed to Kingswood on August 2, 1887. A post office called Cross Roads West opened in April 1887 and was also renamed Kingswood in August 1887.

The land was first used for farming. When the railway line came through in 1862, people started dividing the land into smaller blocks. However, the Kingswood train station didn't open until 1887.
