Kinneyville was once a small, unincorporated community in Benton County, Washington, United States. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government. Today, Kinneyville is no longer a separate place; it has become a part of the nearby city of Prosser.
The Story of Kinneyville
The community of Kinneyville began in the early 1880s. It was founded by a man named James Gordon Kinney. He worked as a stage station master. This meant he managed a stop where horse-drawn carriages, called stagecoaches, would rest and change horses.
Life in Early Kinneyville
In 1883, Kinneyville was a busy little settlement. It had two restaurants where people could eat. There were also several saloons, which were places to drink and socialize. The community had a hotel for travelers and one home.
At this time, the nearby town of Prosser was known as Prosser Falls. Kinneyville and Prosser Falls were close neighbors. Eventually, Kinneyville and Prosser Falls joined together. They formed the single community we now know as Prosser.
