Kirklees facts for kids
Kirklees is a special area in West Yorkshire, England. It is run by a local government called Kirklees Council. Kirklees is known as a metropolitan borough, which means it's a large town area with its own council.
The biggest town in Kirklees is Huddersfield. It's the main place where the council offices are. Other towns and villages in Kirklees include Batley, Birstall, Cleckheaton, Denby Dale, Dewsbury, Heckmondwike, Holmfirth, Kirkburton, Marsden, Meltham, Mirfield and Slaithwaite.
In 2011, about 422,500 people lived in Kirklees. This makes it one of the most populated boroughs in England that isn't officially a city. It's also the third largest metropolitan area in size, after Doncaster and Leeds.
