Kislev (pronounced KIS-lev) or Chislev is a special month in the Hebrew calendar. It is the ninth month if you start counting from the spring, but the third month if you start counting from the fall.
Kislev usually has 30 days. However, sometimes it can have 29 days. This happens because of special rules that help keep the Hebrew calendar in sync. Kislev happens around November and December in the Gregorian calendar, which is the calendar most of the world uses. Some people call Kislev the "month of dreams."
The name Kislev comes from an old language called Akkadian. Some people also connect its name to Hebrew words meaning "hope" or to the "Orion" star group, which shines brightly during this month. In Jewish writings, Kislev is linked to the Tribe of Benjamin, one of the ancient tribes of Israel.
