Kivijärvi is a small town or district (called a municipality) in Finland. Its name means "stony lake" in Finnish. It is located in the Central Finland region.
Kivijärvi has a population of about 1,035 people. It covers an area of 599.88 square kilometres (231.61 sq mi), and a big part of this area (115.81 km2 (44.71 sq mi)) is covered by water, like lakes. The people living here speak only Finnish.
Kivijärvi's coat of arms has a special story. It's based on an old folktale about how the town's first church was built. The story says that workers tried to build the church, but everything they built during the day was mysteriously destroyed at night. So, they decided to let a rooster choose the spot! They put a rooster on a log in the lake, and wherever it landed, that's where the church would be built. The coat of arms was designed by Gustaf von Numers and was approved in 1963.
Nature and Lakes
Kivijärvi is a place with lots of water! There are 89 lakes in the area. The biggest lakes are Kivijärvi, Heitjärvi, and Heikinjärvi.

History of Kivijärvi
The name "Kivijärvi" was first written down in 1554. Back then, it was known as a hunting ground for people called Tavastians. The village of Kivijärvi has been around since at least 1571.
At first, Kivijärvi was part of a larger church area called Rautalampi. Later, in 1628, it moved to the Viitasaari church area. Kivijärvi became its own small church community in 1750 and then fully independent in 1864.
Over the years, some parts of Kivijärvi became separate municipalities. For example, Kinnula became its own municipality in 1904. In 1934, parts of Kivijärvi and Viitasaari were used to create the Kannonkoski municipality.
