Kjetil Jansrud is a famous former alpine ski racer from Norway. He was born on August 28, 1985. Kjetil is also an Olympic champion.

He competed in almost all alpine skiing events. His best event was the giant slalom, where he won six World Cup awards. He also earned an Olympic silver medal in this event. After 2012, he focused on speed events. These include downhill and super-G. Most of his World Cup wins came from these races.

At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, he won a gold medal in the super-G. He also took a bronze medal in the downhill race. Kjetil won a gold medal in downhill at the World Championships in 2019. This event took place in Åre, Sweden.

Kjetil Jansrud was born in Stavanger, Norway. He grew up in Vinstra, a town in Gudbrandsdalen. This area is about 40 kilometers from Kvitfjell, a famous ski resort. Kjetil is also known for hosting the TV show Alt for Norge.

Ski Racing Career

Kjetil Jansrud started his Olympic journey at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. He finished tenth in the combined event. During the giant slalom race, he broke his thumb. This injury ended his 2006 ski season early.

In September of that year, doctors found a problem with a disc in his back. This injury kept him from competing in the entire 2007 season. Kjetil returned to racing and achieved his first World Cup award in January 2009. This happened in Adelboden, Switzerland. In February, he finished ninth in the super combined event at the World Championships.

Olympic Success

Kjetil won a silver medal in giant slalom at the 2010 Winter Olympics. This event was held at Whistler, Canada.

He earned his first World Cup race victory in March 2012. This win was special because it happened on his home snow at Kvitfjell, Norway. That weekend, he won awards in all three speed events. He finished with a victory in the super-G race on Sunday.

At the 2013 World Championships in Schladming, Austria, Kjetil had a crash. This happened during the super-G race. He tore a ligament in his left knee, which meant his 2013 season was over.

Despite his injuries, Kjetil came back strong. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, he won a gold medal in super-G. He also earned a bronze medal in downhill. These races took place at Rosa Khutor. After the Olympics, he won two more speed events at Kvitfjell.

World Cup and World Championship Achievements

During the 2015 season, Kjetil Jansrud won seven World Cup races. He finished first in the season standings for both the Super-G and downhill events. He also won a silver medal at the World Championships. This medal was for the combined event at Beaver Creek, USA.

Kjetil won four more races in the 2016 season. The next year, he won five World Cup races. He finished first in super-G and second in downhill for the season. He also placed second overall in the World Cup standings. He won another silver medal at the World Championships in super-G.

At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Korea, Kjetil won a silver medal in the downhill. He was just 0.12 seconds behind his teammate, Aksel Lund Svindal. Kjetil also won a bronze medal in the super-G. This brought his total Olympic medals to five: one gold, two silver, and two bronze.

At the 2019 World Championships in Sweden, Kjetil won a gold medal in the downhill. He won by a very small margin, just two-hundredths of a second. This race was also the final international race for Aksel Lund Svindal.

Kjetil Jansrud announced in November 2021 that the 2021-2022 season would likely be his last. He officially retired after the Kvitfjell race on March 4, 2022. It was special that he retired at the same course where he won his first race in 2012.
