Kjetil Jansrud (born August 28, 1985) is a famous former alpine ski racer from Norway. He was an Olympic champion. He competed in almost all alpine skiing events except for slalom. His best event was the giant slalom, where he earned six World Cup podiums and an Olympic silver medal.
Since 2012, Kjetil focused on speed events like downhill and super-G. Most of his World Cup wins came from these races. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, he won a gold medal in the super-G. He also took a bronze medal in the downhill race. In 2019, at the World Championships in Åre, Jansrud won a gold medal in the downhill event. Kjetil is also known for hosting the popular TV reality show Alt for Norge.
Kjetil Jansrud was born in Stavanger, Norway. He grew up in Vinstra in Gudbrandsdalen, which is about 40 kilometers from Kvitfjell.

Kjetil Jansrud's Skiing Journey
At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Kjetil finished tenth in the combined event. He broke his thumb during the giant slalom race. This injury meant he couldn't finish the 2006 season. In September of that year, doctors found a problem with his back. This kept him from competing in the entire 2007 season.
Jansrud earned his first World Cup podium finish in January 2009 in Adelboden. He then placed ninth in the super combined at the World Championships in February.
He won a silver medal in the giant slalom at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Whistler.
Kjetil won his first World Cup race in March 2012. This victory happened on his home snow at Kvitfjell, Norway. That weekend, he reached the podium in all three speed events. He finished with a win in the super-G race on Sunday.
At the 2013 World Championships in Schladming, Jansrud had a crash in the super-G race. He managed to get up and ski to the finish line. Later, it was discovered that he had torn a ligament in his left knee. This injury ended his 2013 season.
At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Kjetil Jansrud had an amazing performance. He won a gold medal in the super-G. He also earned a bronze medal in the downhill race at Rosa Khutor. After the Olympics, he won two more speed events at Kvitfjell.
In the 2015 season, Jansrud won seven World Cup races. He finished first in the season standings for both the Super-G and downhill events. He also won a silver medal at the World Championships in Beaver Creek in the combined event.
Jansrud achieved four wins during the 2016 season. The next year, he won five World Cup races. He finished first in super-G, second in downhill, and second in the overall season standings. He also won a silver medal at the World Championships in the super-G.
He won a silver medal in the downhill at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Korea. He was just 0.12 seconds behind his teammate Aksel Lund Svindal. Kjetil also won a bronze medal in the super-G race. This brought his total Olympic medals to five: one gold, two silver, and two bronze.
At the World Championships in Sweden in 2019, Jansrud won gold in the downhill. He won by a tiny margin, just two-hundredths of a second, beating Svindal in his last international race.
In November 2021, Jansrud shared that the upcoming season would likely be his last at the top level. He confirmed in February 2022 that the Kvitfjell race on March 4, 2022, would be his final race. He chose to retire at the same course where he won his very first race in 2012.
