Kosuke Hagino (born August 15, 1994) is a Japanese former competitive swimmer. He was known for his skills in the individual medley and 200-meter freestyle events.

Hagino has won four Olympic medals. His most famous win was a gold medal in the 400-meter individual medley at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He holds Asian records in several swimming events. Kosuke Hagino is one of only two Asian swimmers to be named World Swimmer of the Year.

Kosuke Hagino was born in Tochigi, Tochigi, Japan on August 15, 1994. He attended Toyo University and was coached by Norimasa Hirai. He is married to singer Miwa and they have a child.

Kosuke Hagino's Swimming Career

Early Success: 2012 Olympic Games

Kosuke Hagino first gained international attention at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. He swam in the 400-meter individual medley. He set a new Asian record in the heats. In the final, he won a bronze medal, which was his first international medal. He also broke his own Asian record again.

Rising Star: 2013 World Championships

At the 2013 World Championships, Hagino competed in many events. He won his first silver medal in the 400-meter freestyle. He also set a new Japanese record in this event.

He later won another silver medal in the 200-meter individual medley. Hagino was the only swimmer at this competition to swim in six individual events. This showed his amazing skill and endurance.

Big Wins: 2014 Pan Pacific Championships

The 2014 Pan Pacific Championships in Gold Coast were a huge success for Hagino.

Hagino competed in his second Olympic Games at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Retirement: 2020 Olympic Games

Hagino chose not to defend his 400-meter individual medley title at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, which took place in 2021. He finished sixth in the 200-meter individual medley event. In August 2021, he announced his decision to retire from competitive swimming.
