Kot Diji is a very old archaeological site in Pakistan. It was an important place even before the famous Indus Valley Civilization. People lived here as early as 3300 BCE, which is over 5,000 years ago!
The site has two main parts. One is a high area called a citadel, about 12 meters tall. The other is a lower area around it. Archaeologists from Pakistan dug up and studied Kot Diji in 1955 and 1957.
Where is Kot Diji?
Kot Diji is located in the Sindh province of Pakistan. It is about 24 kilometers (15 miles) south of the city of Khairpur. The site is on the east side of the Indus River, right across from another famous ancient city, Mohenjo-daro.
The Old Fort
The ancient site of Kot Diji sits at the bottom of the Rohri Hills. A fort was built here around 1790 AD. This fort is called Kot Diji Fort. It was built by Mir Suhrab, a ruler from the Talpur dynasty. He ruled the area from 1783 to 1830 AD. The fort is built on a steep, narrow hill and is still in good condition today.
Kot Diji Today
Today, Kot Diji is becoming a more modern place. People there can use broadband and Wi-Fi for internet access. All the major cell phone companies work in the area.
There are many schools in Kot Diji. Both private and government schools teach in English, Urdu, and Hindi. A new shopping center called "Khazana" has also been built in the city.
