Krinau was once a small town, or "municipality," in Switzerland. It was located in the Toggenburg area, which is part of the St. Gallen canton. On January 1, 2013, Krinau joined with the nearby town of Wattwil, so it is no longer a separate municipality.

Krinau's History
Krinau has a long history! The first time anyone wrote about Krinau was in the year 1357. Back then, it was called Krinnow.
Geography of Krinau
Krinau covered an area of about 7.3 square kilometers (about 2.8 square miles) in 2006. More than half of this land (57.6%) was used for farming. A large part (39.1%) was covered by forests.
About 2.8% of the land had buildings or roads. A very small part (0.6%) was made up of rivers or lakes.
Location and Hamlets
Krinau was located in the western part of the Thur river valley. It was on the edge of a mountain ridge called Chrüzeggkamm.
The area included the main village of Krinau. It also had several smaller settlements, called hamlets. These hamlets were Altschwil, Au, Dreischlatt, Gurtberg, Schuflenberg, Krinäuli, Niederberg, Kapf, and Gruben. Krinau was known as a beautiful farming village in the Toggenburg region.
